can the stock dual mass be lightened? its kinda weird to spend more on a flywheel then the engine is worth

I'm not planning on replacing my clutch till the end of this coming summer, still has a decent amount of bite left. I've got a stock flywheel, bav auto is selling one for $484, and theres no way i'm paying that much for a flywheel. I know bav auto has good quality shit, but their prices are outrageous sometimes, anybody know of something cheaper? Are there any negative effects a flywheel can have? A buddy of mine was going to get a lightweight pulley system on his 92 325i auto, but decided not to, I forget why but it had some sort of negative effect.

no one that I know of has tried to lighten a dual mass, most likely because its much less trouble to just convert to a stock single mass.

What you need to do is just lighten a stock single mass flywheel. It cost !100 to do mine.

You're right Rob. I think early production 325e's also used a single-mass. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Whoops - I've got a 17 pound flywheel. Of course it on a m30 motor...

Lightened and rebalanced from the stock 22 lbs (?) - if I had to do it again I'd got for the 533/633 13 pounder.
