Thought you guys might like to see this pic. We just had our second child, first boy, and when my wife wanted to have his newborn photos taken I had only one request...
reelizmpro: I will always be an e30 guy.. I still do all of my own labor TrentW: There's just something so right about a well-built M20 in an E30 e30m3s54turbo: I save my money for tuner parts.
So I'm a bit behind on updates. Here's the latest. Removing the sunroof motor is easy.
Just note which wires go where on the relay
Here's another thing that wasn't helping my sunroof-c clip had come off somehow.
After the motor is out you can clearly see how it works. The cables are threaded and the gears run through the threads, pushing the cables through the copper colored tubing to close the sunroof, or pulling the cables to open it.
Cables are easily removed once the motor is out by pulling from the side that attaches to the sunroof
The tubing comes off easily with a few bolts in the center (shown above) and on the ends
So that's the sunroof done for now. I don't want to remove the rest of the track and the silver/chrome strips because they are glued down, and in the case of the track, is glued down in a very difficult to reach place. This will be easy for the body shop to tape off so they don't get overspray.
Now removing some bits from the interior
Steering column cover comes off very easily with a few screws on the top and bottom.
And removing some wires and modules under the driver's seat. This is the cruise control module according to real OEM, which is confusing because I thought I already removed the cruise control computer. Maybe just 80s technology
This is how the wires go in. More a reminder for myself than anything
Hood latch out
Much more to do on the inside wiring. I think I'm going to pull all the wiring from the engine bay but try to leave the cabin wiring intact. We'll see.
Speaking of engine bay...
Removing relays
Removing coolant sensor wire
Removing ignition coil
This 02 sensor wire travels quite the path from the ECU, through the firewall, under the coolant tank, down the engine bay, across the firewall above the transmission, and down onto the exhaust manifold
I disconnected it but left the sensor in the manifold for now
GOODBYE UGLY PLUG WIRES! Replacing these with red ones.
Coolant temp sensors coming off
The little rubber loom piece was tricky to get off. Oil leaks had gunked it up pretty badly
