One Year In... M3 Build Thread
Small update. I'm pulling wiring from around the driver footwell. Hoping to pass as little wire as possible back through the firewall and leave some in place in the car, we'll see how that works out.
So far....
This is the main connector for all the wires that run to the steering wheel and the stalks (turn signal, wipers, cruise, etc)
Pretty self explanatory on how to get it off the column.
[will post pic here when I disconnect the wires themselves, not there yet]
This T shaped black mount sits on the firewall holds up cables and holds down insulation, easy to remove.
This guy mounts to the firewall and holds the OBC module as well as several connectors that go through into the engine bay. Easy to disconnect just remember where everything was plugged in or take pictures. Take pictures. For your sanity. There are two main connectors
On the lower left side of the footwell, behind where the engine release used to be, there appears to be a zip tie holding the main harness in place. Do not cut this. I almost did until I saw you can leave it whole and remove the harness from it easily
Detach some of the cable mounts from the ledge above the steering column. Remembering where each goes
This apparently is the seatbelt buzzer relay.
As part of this I'm removing the pedal box as well.
Unhook the brake and gas pedal return springs. I just let them hang from the pedal box for now
Remove the pin and clip holding the brake master cylinder to the brake pedal. The crop part of the clip needs to be lifted high enough so that the whole clip can slide over the pin
Now the clutch master cylinder. No clip here, just a 17cm and 13cm wrench needed
Both cylinders should be free of the pedals now.
More to come!
