Depends on the wheel construction, honestly. Just remember, it's only 1cm.

I cant seem to source the falken 502 - 205/40/16.....Should i just try and by the same size tire in the back and call it a day or would you suggest purchasing a different tire size? Any tire recommendations ?
Depends on the offset of the wheels. You should be running something far taller, like a 205/50.

He is going to install eibach pros so they won't be stiff and he is running a 15x7 et12. He currently has 195, 55's and we know 205, 50's shouldn't have any issues. Would he be able to run anything wider without having any rubbing issues? If they were et20 or so I don't think it would be a problem but he is concerned due to the lower offset.
Depends on the shape of the tire. It's that close, I wouldn't guarantee anything at that offset.

If you cant give me a precise answer, something that will be slightly stretched, but have the same overall height will work just fine for me. Thanks!!
Likely will need 10-15mm just to clear the struts, and then they will be far, far outside of the fenders (front). You'll want at least 3 degrees of camber just to pull them inside, and then severely stretched tires (205/45).

You really have to be specific with the wheel details, that could be a multitude of different wheels.

At first I really wanted to run a square tire set up with 225/45R16's. Now however I'm thinking of going with a staggered set with either 205/55's or maybe 215/40's in the front with the 225/45's in the Rear. Would the square set up look too wonky on the staggered wheels, there's only a 1" difference after all. If so, what would be the best option between the two front sizes? FWIW, Hartge originally mounted 205/45's Front and 225/45's Rear (as shown in pic below). I'd like as little difference in contact patch between the two axles, and as much understeer prevention as I can get.
As for tire selection, I'm pretty much set on Toyo R1R's, but the BF Goodrich KDW-2's are significantly cheaper and seem to get pretty positive reviews. The Toyo's would only work on the square set-up too due to their smaller size selection. Are the Toyos really worth the extra cash over the BFG's?
What says the hive mind, and more importantly, the Guru?
Go with the square 225/45 setup. Both of those tires are excellent, for longer treadwear and better wet performance go with the KDWs. For the ultimate in response and dry traction, R1R.

10mm spacers in the front, none in the rear if you clearance your trunk wells.

                      Late model car
                      17x7.5 wheels square
                      et21
car is lowered, has decently stiff struts/spring, big sways.

first of all, can i get 235/40-17s on the wheels? 2nd, am i going to hit fender? rear has a light roll already. should i just get a quality 215 instead?

What is the width of the wheel? 16x9 +15 needs a 3mm spacer to clear the struts, and yes it will definitely poke quite a bit.

It will rub with the 235. Just go for a 215, you're absolutely right.

Car: '87 sedan with M50NV swap riding on H&R OE Sport springs, E36 steering rack, inner tie rod spacers, possibly M3 offset control arm bushings in the future
                              Wheels: XXR 002 15x8 0 offset (current)
                              XXR 527 17x9ish +25 offset (possible option)

Are there any ultra high performance summer tire options apart from the Toyo T1R and the Hankook RS3 available in 225/45/15? I was originally shooting to cram 245s all around under my car's fenders, but I am unsure if the unsprung weight penalty is worth the jump to 17s to make this happen. The goal is to take the car to a couple of HPDEs and enjoy the twisty drive home after class/work.

My primary goal is maximum grip; flushness is nice but not required. I'm prepared to roll my fenders to avoid poke, though... that's my only requirement for looks. Is this possible with the tire sizes I'm looking at? Should I jump to 17s instead, and if so, do the wheels & tires I'm considering have a chance of fitting?

1987 325is with GC coilover kit (525/800), koni G60 struts. Full poly bushings all around...

Looking at some Kosei K1's I found on craigslist....16x7.5 front 16x8.5 rear. 4x100 bolt pattern. Come with tires: rear 245/45/16 and fronts are 225/45/16.

Offset not listed but they are coming off a miata.

                                What do you all think?
