Anything in that series. I also suggest a hevy engine flush if it has not been replaced by recall campaign, and not to run Pennzoil. ( It is a parafin based, waxy oil that plugs the top ends of the 2.2 toyote engine.Comment

Julie knows what my vote is...E39 or E39 wagon but if E34 is more to your liking then go for it. Don't bother with the E36 4 door, it's marginally bigger than your E30. Go for a 5er. You can even get a 540i for around 5K these days."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

I really don't think you can go wrong with an E34. A touring would be prime but I'm sure a sedan would be great also. As others have said, M50 is your best choice for gas mileage, and the option to swap S50 if you want to get crazy is always there.
The E34 section at BF.c has a lot of great information, if you can put up with some of the antics over there. Also, I've included a link to a checklist of common issues with these old fivers. Hope this helps.

16? My brother gets 21 easy in the city. My dad originally bought the e34 my brother drives because he needed a bigger car for the family. We all love that car. My father and mother were pleased with the e34 as it did what they needed it to do flawlessly.sigpic<< wreckedComment

I've done a mass air sensor and an alternator in 135k miles on our 2000 XLE. Everything else has been brake pads, fluids and filters. No other repairs needed.Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3Comment

I got the car from my girlfriends dad who bought it new. It has literally never had anything done to it other than timing belts/waterpumps, plugs/wires, oil changes, tires/brakes. I take that back, i fucked up the flex pipe when rallycrossing it but i dont think that was the cars fault.
Oh and i generally drive it like its a rental, anyone who has ridden with me/attempted to follow me cant attest to that. The old girl takes everything i throw at her and i think she'll easily make it another 50k.Comment
