my question is this: Where does all the money come from that the government is handing out to these people who take advantage of this incentive program?

    Just a question.

^^ California's too cool to worry about menial issues like that. They have the environment to save. I mean, they can't pay their own people and environmentalists around Santa Barbara nixed oil drilling that would have provided the state income.

i would trade my car in, in a heartbeat if i could get 4500 or 3500 for it and needed a new car......these cars arent worth that much period. sentimental value, yes. resale value. no.

This is the fed giving out this money. I'm sure theyre just printing it :???:

I removed the 3 gauges in front of the shifter. They were screwed into the existing plastic with self tapping screws and not even hooked up to anything Just a bundle of wires coming out of the back about 2 feet and then all cut. I also got the door tweeters, center wheel caps, the awesome for 1995 stereo, the incomplete trunk toolbox, the jack, the ashtrays, and a few other bits i cant be bothered to remember atm. I'll sort through them later and post em in a few days while trying to keep in mind all the PMS ive been getting (holy crap!).

well the only reason i'd find a car ok to be traded in, would be if it was rusted chassis, or too far beyond fixable, or the p.o was trying to kill you, etc...
in this case, i would take EVERYSINGLE bit of nice parts on your car and replace with jy crap.

I'll check out how easy the headlights are to take out. I'm definitely grabbing the fog lights. It would be cool to grab the steering wheel but i dont know what to replace it with to get it there. I dont have enough time to run to a junkyard between now and tuesday just for that unfortunately. Center hub covers are also an "of course" :).

I'll try to remove the door tweeters for the self proclaimed "vulture" who probably sent the nicest PM. edit- wait, i have door tweeters? lol, ill look tomorrow.

I was getting rid of this car one way or another. It was a few hundred $ for sale on craigslist, $1,000 through california's "retirement" program which is pretty cool since almost all of the parts go for resale/reuse somehow, or $3,500 through this new program. I feel bad but hey, im trying to do what i can while i have the time.

It's 18 mpg or less. According to the epa site a 325i/is gets 18mpg so it just barely qualifies. Unfortunately the car we're getting only gets 27 mpg so we're only gonna get $3500 but between that and all the other dealer incentives we're getting $6,500 off of a $16,000 + tax car.

Guys i've gotten alot of PMs, mostly about the center gauges. I'll rip em out tomorrow (along with all of the other interior bits) and then we'll see what we've got. Some guy asked about my suspension.... no, i have to have that to drive to the dealer :p
too bad the EPA rating is seriously flawed. It's not even a real test for E30s, it's an estimate based on the original values (which were already flawed).

my car officially gets 18mpg average, but there's no way I've ever had that poor fuel economy. I get 19 city 25 freeway vs 15/22 that they list. Even tuned pig rich a couple years ago I could do 19 on average.

all the government has to do is classify any older car as being 18mpg or less and they can scrap it. What happens when you are no longer given the choice..

As this concept gains more and more popularity, it's going to be a sad day for "vintage" car enthusiasts. The main reason I drive my car is because I haven't found a "new" car (that I can afford) that is as much fun to drive as my e30 or has the vintagish sports car look that an early e30 has. Everything now is plastic and "dumbed" down. The advances in technology have been huge but I think at the cost of driver involvement and participation. I plan on keeping my e30 until a force greater than my own decides the relationship should end. Until then, I don't need no stinkin' traction control:hitler: stepping down off of my soapbox....thanks;)

i guess if people can get 4.5k for their cars we will see who the real e30 enthusiasts are....

Dont get me wrong - i loved my 325i before the transmission started to go. I had a miata before it - the only reason I got an E30 was that it was the closest thing to a miata that i could find with 4 doors. Also theyre pretty sexy .

this thread makes me want to puke. Does anyone want to attempt to start a petition against this retarded ass program. I would like to get the ball rolling.

The salvage yards in my area just crush the e30's on site that get brought in as clunker trades, so the good ones are going to dry up quick.

pm me or reply if interested. This crap isnt going away without a fight.
