i was driving in the left lane on highway 16 wich is a two lane highway and there was a cop on the right side of the road. He pulled out and got behind me blah bla and pulled me over. His reason?? apparently its illeagal in washington to drive in the left lane, its for passing and emergency vehicles only. i didnt get a ticket or anything and im not ranting i just think thats stupid. i have driven in the left lane for 4 years on the same highway and passed hundreds of cops. i was under the impression that it was the lane your suposed to be in if your not exiting. anyone ever herd of this?

it is illegal. you were breaking the law. There are even signs posted along the freeway. It's only for passing.

oh, it's also legal to pass on the right lane in WA.

driving in canada generally sucks except for their freeways. People drive crazy and fast, sure, but there's not nearly as many left lane campers. So much less frustrating.

It is written on the side of the highways on huge signs, all over North America, and even the rest of the world. Everyone knows (except you, I guess), that left lane is only for passing.

there are no sighns on this highway, though i should have known better. i realize alot of 2 lane highways do have the signs just not this one. everone i know around here say its the fast lane. not that im arguing just saying if you dont live anywhere near washington then its safe to say you dont know were there are signs and were there are not.

It's common sense.
I've known this since I started driving at 15. My dad used to harp on me mercilessly for it, even on city streets, he'd tell me to get on the right lane if I didn't have a reason to be in the left.

mirror every second? If not, you should move to the right lane. ;)

Pretty sure that as long as no one is coming up on you going 110mph you should be safe just glancing in your rear view every 8 seconds or so.

If you read the previous pages you will see that he wasn't causing any kind of problem. It was 7am and I bet there were hardly any other cars on the road.

My girlfriend does the exact same thing, she always drives like 10 over the speed limit and usually stays in the left lane. I tell her that you can get pulled over for it but she says that it doesn't matter if she is going faster than most other cars on the road and whenever there is someone coming up on her she gets over. She has a point but I still tell her that one day she will get pulled over. Glad to see that more states are starting to enforce this, maybe I will get to say "I told you so."

Wonder what the fine would have been if you were to have gotten a ticket.

It's the single most annoying thing in the entire world. I've lived in many different countries all over the world, including Japan, Canada, and Italy. It's only in the USA that people don't know how to use highways. Makes me nuts.

Even in Turkey (where everyone drives like a maniac and no one respects traffic laws) people are smart enough to keep out of the passing lane on the highway. When you get back to America, you want to pull your hair out.

I agree that it is annoying when people go slow in the left lane, but I dont think e30smiley was going slow.

Whenever I come up on someone going slow in the left lane my passenger usually says just go around them but I always stay behind them for a few minutes and even give a flash of the lights. The most annoying thing is when they don't get the idea and they stay in the left lane, thats when I have to down shift and zip around them, but I try not to pass on the right.

my fav is the idiot that merges onto the freeway at 45-50 tops and SHOOTS to the fast lane without accelerating at all.
