I know its not an e30, but im thinking about picking up a '99 Subaru impreza 2.5rs. Does anybody know anything about Imprezas or just Subaru's in general? I have googled a lot of info and so far it sounds like a great car but I want some input from some people I am familiar with. thanks.

Very little balls in the straight line. I remember Sport Compact Car dynoing about 96 whp out of a stock one. ouch. I'll take RWD and low drivetrain losses. But that's just me...

I got them from a Sport Compact Car project car article...as mentioned above. Yes, 165 (maybe, who knows) at the crankshaft. Less than 100 of that 165 gets to the wheels.

Nando, could have been poor conditions or something like that. Are there other 2.5RS's putting more than that to the wheels? Probably, but I don't know any scooby forums or places to find dyno info. time to start diggin...

I think that 17% is the average number. Someone may have a more exact number.

There is no exact number, every car including each E30 is different. The only way to tell would be to dyno the engine and then dyno the chassis and then you can find the true difference.

Yeah im going the subaru route as well maybe the end of this month but im picking up a wrx wagon 227 tubocharged horses oooh.... nothing a little suspension, and turbo tweaking would do to have a fun canyon carver/daily driver. As for my e30 im show prepping the car, but not ricer style just a reiger lip, Breyton sideskirts/Rear bumper cap,repaint the body, engine paint, redone interior in black/red, carbon hood, and some Mtechnic decals and R3V decals.

I don't know where you are but ... www.lersoc.com Good web sight/board. There is a lot of loss with all awd systems. Think about 3 diffs and 6 drive/half shafts.
None of it matters when it's rainning or snowing and you could flip off a cop and take off :twisted:

wrx's are nice cars dont get me wrong..but they have poor transmissions and also there interior is very bland...also they experience alot of turbo lag....

but they hold there own the the inclimate weather so thats good....

Subaru tranny problems are more related to driver than engineering, especially with the NA cars...

slow in a straight line, I suppose, about on par with a stock 325is I'd say. Dyno numbers, *shrug*, lots of cars put shitty numbers down, too many variables to judge.

The one I drove was really fun. Steering feel is lacking of course compared to an E30, but the AWD is a lot of fun, and the motor is a lot torquier feeling than most 4 bangers. Sounds pretty good too...

Overall, I'd say they'd make a good daily, although they are rare enough to drive prices almost into early WRX territory...

A buddy at school has one, he loves it. Up to 4th gear my stock 325i was a good match but from 4th on he couldn't keep up. He had to have the engine replaced after spinning a rod bearing(subby dealer didn't put in enough oil and he took it up above 100 mph). Luckily they covered everything under warrenty/

thanks for the advice guys. I still dont know what im gonna do. i would rather get an e30 but ive waited for so long and this 2.5rs in my area is really nice. has nice wheels, a ski rack and low mileage. meditate on this i will.

Tim has probably posted on here that he had a 2.5, he only had it for a few hours before he flipped, but he nothing but good things to say about it, he said he wished it had a sixth gear though.
