I highly recommed refreshing your motor before you need to rebuild your motor.

Previous owner used 20w-50 with 1qt synthetic... anyone make their own blends?

0w40 or 10w40 depend where you live at,20w50 is too thick and will damage bearing little by little on start up.

I used 5-40 regular oil, most damage happens at startup so I want the oil getting thru the passages ASAP!, the 3k or 3 months change is what the oil companies want you to do ;) for the experts in here is Mobil "synthetic" Group III or Group IV again?

10w40 but last time I used 20w50 just to see if it would leak less.

I use the Amsoil high zinc 20-50 weight. My M20 has 202,000 miles and burns about 1/4 of a quart every 2500 miles. That's acceptable to me.

This is a good thread, my search of ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl Dithiophosphate) brought me here.

I was on the I.E. site and they say to go to this web site if you are using a preformance cam, and/or have other mods done the the m20.

Has anyone used their products? Or would if be better to use an oil with a higher amount of ZDDP already in it?

I thought this was pretty interesting too...

I just put some 5w-30 in my car since it hasn't been running much due to being restored, but after I get it going I plan on putting some proper oil in it.

It seems to be that Mobile 1 15w-50 seem like the best choice for the summer.

So would it be a good idea to add a ZDDP additive? Or just run it as is?
