a 200k eta. It doesn't knock when you start it up and let it idle, but since i've owned it it's always chugged when under load unless it's warmed up.

the p.o always ran 15w40 rotella but i switched to dino 10w40 for winter. It still knocks if i don't let it warm up - i've since switched to 20w50 for more protection. I'm careful to let it idle until at least 50% warm.

I doubt it matters but I'm just hoping that switching oil types after it's had rotella for so long wasn't something too drastic. it doesn't burn oil, it just knocks like a bitch.

Used LubroMoly 10w-40 yesterday in my oil change. At $40 for 5 liters I'm not sure if its worth the price but it does look pretty amazing, looks just like chocolate milk!
West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

You know guys I was really interested in this hole ZDDP thing. I found that it was very useful information but when you can run a car 1 million miles on Mobil 1 and not have any major wear on internal engine components I question the real worth of the ZDDP argument.

With that said how many of us will be able to drive our cars 1 million miles with out getting hit in an accident. I’m sure the odds are against us.

I'm impressed by the test, but I can't help but think outside elements like drastic variations in temperature, rain, snow, salt dirt and the like would alter the test significantly. Still, the test does show that with proper maintenance you can do some amazing things.

Taking a closer look, they at least seem to have run the test outside which is even more impressive to me... Still not the same day to day roughness of a true road going car, but impressive none the less.

While this may be true, it does not say which of their lines of oil they used. I would be willing to wager they used something with a SHIT LOAD of ZDDP in it. All the API cj-4 (diesel) oils have large amounts of ZDDP in it, just for the reason that road tractors (not farm) run 600k-1.2 million miles between engine over hauls, all those miles are under high boost high load, they need the protection thats why its in there. You cant go wrong with the extra protection, in your high performance Gasser or even to limp along your old and tired M20.

                      ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

yes I think more than anything else other than Valvoline VR1, IIRC the M1 has something like 1600ppm and the VR1 1700ppm

most of the GOOD cj-4 oils are 1300-1500ppm the fully synthetic M1 delvac I run is 1500ppm and thats about as good as it gets for cj-4

Just got my car up and running with the new used engine.

With the Mobile 1 10W/40 I get the oil pressure light on at idle when the car is nice and hot.

This really sucks because I even put a new oil pump on the car to avoid this kind of problem.

Guess ill try running the 15w50 and see if that fixes the problem.

Castrol GTX 20W50 dino oil every 3K w/ filter. Synthetics just wind up on the driveway.

ELF/Total synthetic, 5w30, I don't drive it in the winter. My mechanic says it's the best for my eta. I've had no problems, car has 275K on it, runs strong. Anyone using this grade/brand?

Said to be a top quality oil, but too thin? Engine does not burn any oil and is fairly quiet...
