I've had two fixit-tickets for this, one for a euro plate, and one for no plate. Both times I went to court, the bailiff came out and checked to see that I had my state plate on, and they sent me on my way.

You come off as a super douche. First of all, saying "probably" doesn't invalidate anything. I don't know what would give you that idea. You are asking for legal advice on a car forum... that's okay, and you'll probably get the right answer. But if you actually give a shit and want a "valid" answer, just take 30 seconds and look up the law like a normal person.

And do you think anyone would have a front plate if it weren't required?

I have the actuall CA highway code printed out that deals with front plates as i was pulled over.

in short, the front plate has to be VISIBLE and no lower than 4 inches from the ground and no higher than 66 inches.

I rocked my euro plate with the front cali plate in the window without any issues after that

i just tell them it didnt come with one when i bought it. i've only been pulled over for the front place once, the rest of the time they just mention it when i get pulled over for something else. i've never gotten a ticket for it though

I got pulled over last saturday and got a $310 fine for not having a licence plate in the front.
But then again, this was in Norway, so I guess you don't have to worry

My uncle has a new 5 series and he was actually cited for not having a license plate on the front, so he had to drill holes in his front bumper to mount it.

I was going ~"45" in a 50 zone, but he pulled me over for exhibition to racing.
He thought I was trying to race my buddy in an e36 because we were going around 25mph talking through the windows of our car for directions to an exhaust shop. After giving him directions I pulled away so he can merge behind me to follow, then I got pulled over and he gave me that lame ticket along with the other little fix-it/citations. He says there was too much traffic to be going that fast, lol?
