Vince, I am sorry my friend, you have failed in this. You did not need to give him $150, you did not even need to continue to converse with him at all.

He would "think about it"? what the heck does that mean? well, since you already made that offer, you can't back out on him now, now you screwed yourself into that position. If he tries to re-negotiate the offer in any way, I would tell him to pack sand. You have already been too nice.

I also told him that I bought the parts I gave him at a from a friend discount for $250 so he can get a lot more for them and if he posted them here they would sell within a week. He said he will think about it... What is there to think about here really?

did he take it on a test drive or inspect the car?

that is nice of you and all, the tow truck i can understand, but i would NOT pay for the parts.

There are limits, of course we all to keep the transactions good, but think about it. You listed the car for sale, it is cheap, the guy didn't buy it sight unseen, of course used cars don't come with a warranty especially when they are that old/cheap. Now you are bending over for him?

If anything you are doing him a favor and he'll just do the same at the next time he'll buy something, but hopefully the next seller with have the balls to tell him to fuck off.

Why did you sell it "AS IS", should have included warranty and free NEW parts

Keep in mind the guy has no reason not to try and get money from you. He effectively just earned $150. He succeed.

I'm going to buy my next project car from you.

Dude you shouldn't have given an inch now the d-bag will try to take a mile. You don't owe him shit. Out of common decency it would be nice to help the guy out fixing the car but fuck refunding him the money.

                  same situation

Sold my e30 to a guy after daily driving it 500 miles a week faithfully for about 4 years. A week after its sold, i get a call from the new owner(who knew little to nothing about cars, let alone e30s) saying he is unhappy, the car overheated a number of times and left him stranded on his way home from a date with his lady. He wanted some money back, and some help with the car.

I offered to come by and look at it and help fix it but not to refund any of the money, because it was sold as is.He declined but continued to contact me throughout the week insinuating that I sold him a lemon.

The irony of this all, was that he sold me a bone stock e30 (for nearly a grand more) a month before he begged me to buy my old one. At the time he was calling me to complain about MY car, the car I bought from HIM was sitting in my driveway for over a month due to a short in the fuel injector harness, that left me stranded while I was driving with my gf AND her MOM. I made no mention of this until I finally grew tired of him contacting me constantly about some new problem the car has.... Haven't heard from him since!

Fact of the matter is, shit breaks on these cars, never once was I upset that the car broke down on me, because i knew it was MY car and MY job to fix it.

For all you know the guy took a few parts out of the thing and is now coming to bitch at you trying to make some quick money! I bought my car from a guy used and I would never think of calling him and saying hey man the car has this or that wrong with it, will you give me my money back?? Its a fucking 20+ yr old car. This dude needs to man up, and you should no longer have any contact with him.

writing, "as is", on the bill of sale doenst entirely save your ass. if you expressed that it is at least that it will make it home, on paper or not, it could bite you in the back if he knows the law in your state. In washington you have a right to use law, regardless if you say as is buying a car you have the right you drive it as the buyer. but if you sold it under the pretenses that it is a project/barely runs then you are safe and keep your 650.

This is what I was thinking, I wanted to come up with an agreement that would leave us both satisfied. I just got a new job witch pays decent, I live at home still to save money, so my monthly expenses is like $350, I can spare the extra money if that means it makes him happy. The car was sitting in my street for almost a month and I just wanted it out of the way.

Edit: I should have just waited for james (85Dirty30) to get the money and buy it because he knows how to fix them and wouldn't cry about this stuff.
