Stupidest thing you have done while working on your E30

Mine was yesterday... 3 hours into trying to sort out my Central Locking system that had locked me out, and then failed to re-lock the night before.

Here I am, both door panels off, trunk open, car ripped apart..trying to fix wiring and stupid double lock bullshit. I've got my car parked in my driveway at somewhat of an angle, blocking both my GTI and my wifes E46 into the garage. Wife reminds me that she needs to leave, So I go about moving the E30. Keys were last seen sitting in the trunk...

Somehow the trunk is locked. I start to panic. Did I leave the keys in trunk? FUCK.
So I search and search no to avail for my spare key. Stressing that my wife needs to leave for work in 10 mins, I panic some more.

What I do next is where the real Stupid comes into play. Convinced that I have locked the keys into the trunk, I squeeze my ass into the backseat
(I Have E46 seats installed, they don't lean forward or provide much room).
I tear out the rear seat bottom, unbolt the rear seat back, and start smashing the pass through cover with a BFH to knock it out.

Reach forward into the glovebox and grab my leatherman, and start sawing through the cardboard into the trunk. I've got one shoulder and an entire arm stuck through the passthrough, groping in the dark. The keys are not in the trunk. WTF!

Somehow in my panic fit of stupidity, I cut my arm on the newly smashed open hole. So I head inside to the bathroom to wash my wound..and what do I find?

My keys. Sitting on the counter where I placed them 15 minutes prior when I took a dump. Thats when the realization hit me that there is no way I could have locked the keys IN the trunk, as you need the key to lock it in the first place.

Good thing I was planning on upgrading to an armrest backseat.

    FML.

Had my friend's e30 fall on me (almost a kill story) and the jack stands go into the gas tank, both of them.

I was told that's the fastest anyone had ever seen me move, ever, as I ninja'd it all out from under that car.

So many stupid little things, like trying to pull rear springs for an hour then remembering to unbolt the strut and then pulling em right out. I could probably go on all day. The worse was probably trying to hook up heater lines in my m50 swap with the intake manfold on. FUCK THAT. Idk why i didnt feel like taking it off it takes 5 minutes and makes everything a million times easier

You also left the 22mm ratchet on the crank bolt of yun's car after a valve adjustment, turned the car on and almost destroyed the entire front end of the engine!!

couldn't get to one of the bolts of the rear bumper shock, decided to cut through it with a sawsall... once that was finished I realized I still couldn't get it off without getting that bolt.

Forgot about this one..dunno if it should be my #1. But did an entire clutch job, got the tranny back in and entire car put back together. Lowered it off the lift to test drive and discovered I put the TOB on backwards. Had to pay to keep the car at the shop another night and next day, and had to walk my ass off the Marine base to my friends car parked down the street.

DUDE! I just did exactly that with the TO bearing. A split-second mistake that necessitated pulling the M50 and removing the transmission. 5 or 6 hours of my life that I'd like back please! Plus I spent money on a new slave cylinder hoping it was a hydraulic problem keeping the pedal from moving more than 3 inches. FML!

Replacing the fluid in the diff. As it was draining, I fell asleep on a block of wood under my car.

                          ^lol

I dropped an M30 transmission on my leg this one time, that sucked.

Also, unbolting driveshaft at the giubo and promptly receiving it to the face, that one's always good for a laugh.
