I think the problem is (I'm gonna be blunt here), that there are too many users here that spend TOO MUCH time on the board, and are just looking for an excuse to post something...anything. E30's are obviously a big part of all of our lives, but for Christ's sake, get something else to fill out some of the day.

If it really gets to you, you need to have a more diverse social life outside the online world. I'm not being hypocritical either, I reached this point and have realized that I'm stressing over a damn online community of which 95% of the users I'll never meet or have any real useful ties with.

I'm here to learn and share E30 information, and that's it. Stop reading between the lines, and stop posting useless garbage.

I actually don't spend much of my day on here; I'm usually at work, school, out with friends or asleep. I usually post here to pass some time inbetween other activities, or after work (gotta wind down so I can go to sleep). I don't visit other E30 boards, I just don't have time to waste posting and reading in 10 different places.

The biggest problem has been dealt with fellas. I don't see an issue with anything thats goin on here. Then again I'm sure the issues that are at hand are quckly swept under the proverbial carpet before most of us see them. I think there are some moderators that are too sensitive and are overly worried. This is most likely the liveliest e30 community around. I think we need to keep it that way. I'm sure its the fastest growing e30 community also.... there's a reason for that. Keep up the good work guys.

            Can I be a mod now? ;)

I've been around since e30sport and have done much more watching than posting. When E3S died and e30tech and r3vlimited were my new options... I picked r3vlimited solely because Jordan was leading it. I knew that with Jordan leading the forum, he would keep the crap out and that there would be a wealth of information.

I've never met him in person, but I think he's the kind of guy I could get along with - and that goes for many other members here too. I think there is a "core" group of guys on r3v that will always be here and try to make this a better place. Then you have the new guys who might be troublemakers or might help out the community. I think once the new admins get a feel for all this and get a chance to be more active and understand who those potential troublemakers are - they can exercise their powers and satisfy their responsibility to keep r3v a great place.

That's basically what I'm trying to get at with the whole "being nicer to each other." I'm not saying you need to like anything and everything that anyone does to their car - but try and be a little more respectful of other's opinions. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it sucks.

I've personally banned at least one member, and will ban any others that deserve it. So the "change" is coming in that sense.

As for unbanning everyone - it would have been too hard to try and figure out who should have been let back in and who should stay banned - removing the bans completely and starting fresh was easiest and the most fair. It's going ok for now - there are more noobs getting booted for being shitheads than old members reinstated.

And what others said above about posting for the sake of posting - you're right, and that's some of the reason we end up with shit on here.

I don't want to have to go through 8 crap posts to read a useful one - I don't spend my life on here, so I want to use my time wisely. We stop the crap, we have more time to read and post useful or entertaining threads.

PS - Rob, seriously, I'm still new to this compoootorz thing, you gotz to give meez a brake! :)

Scott, you are an asshole and you suck. Your cars suck and all fucking Chowds in Mass. suck. You lie about banning people - you are too much of a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles.;)

Seriously, though - I agree with you that opening the door to everyone and then sorting things out was the only way to do it.

I think part of the problem is not always the "harsh" comments being made, but the soft skinned people who can't take them with a grain of salt. Part of why I like r3v more than e30tech or anywhere else is the fact that I get a chuckle when Charlie or Heeter unload on someone - if they idea is stupid, or the person is stupid - let them get called on it.

Those of us who have been here long enough know not to take that stuff too seriously. I guess my point it that if we lose too much of that edge, we might as well be e30tech. And that would REALLY suck.

                    And with apologies to Langsten,

That is exactly what I think. We like to bullshit with each other, and if the new people cannot take it, they should goto e30tech.

It isn't just me. e30tech is boring as are most of the other BMW sites I goto. They may have valuable information, but I don't like to be bored to death when talking about something that all of the members have a common interest in.

Giving each other shit is part of R3V, and one I'd never change.

But giving shit to new members who truly don't know the answer to a question or are trying to learn about their e30s is harsh. There has to be some form of "slack" cut to new members, or we won't have anymore.

                        IE:
noob: I can't figure out how to open my hood - the lever is broken and I can't get it to pop!
R3veteran: Fuck you you stupid fucking noob I hate you and you shouldn't be driving this car.

                        NO

It is funny. I guess I have become accustomed to this type of response, I saw this exchange and thought nothing of it. In retrospect I think it is the wrong way to interact with anyone let alone someone you don't know, that is new and has a legitimate question. Were we all born knowing where the screwdriver goes to open the hood?

I know there is a male bonding thing that goes on between really good friends and then this type of interaction is nothing but fun but on the internet where you can't see facial expressions nor hear tone of voice I think it is unacceptable.

Scott I really think even for you that should be NO unless you have an agreement with him that he can be really rude to you.

My (with for Chris since this seems to belong to him)

I agree with Scott on the noob flaming thing. Ive been a part of the online e30 community since e30sport as well. Ive also made the same noob mistakes. Asking what performance exhaust I should put on my car or what will this ebay mod do for me kinda stuff. Thats why we originally found r3v right? To answer stuff about our cars.
