LOL, no, I am serious. I haven't ever had any problems with my hood release, so that is good to know. And stop calling me "MR." dammit.

New Rule - if they have less than 20 posts and a join date under 30 days - politely tell them to use the search feature before posting. Over 20 posts or over 30 days - they are fair game.

I for one believe that this forum would benefit from some organized tech articles and stickied threads about common repairs & mods and less sub forums.

The tons of sub-forums almost spreads information to thin and some of the big stickied threads like the "Comprehensive DOHC Swap" thread is very hard to comprehend because there are 15 different discussions about different engine, transmission, and random other parts you can hardly tell what goes where unless you're an exprienced engine swap veteran.

I've told BimmerFanatik that I plan to help put together some tech articles for his new site but I wouldn't mind making some nice, organized, and detailed tech articles even on things I have yet to do as long as people can get all the information and pictures to me in least amount of jumble fuck possible.

I agree. One aspect of e30 tech that I really like is they have a whole sub-forum dedicated to stickied FAQ type threads. Itd be a great addition over here and would give noobs a ton of info and easy access to keep em out of our hair.

Sticky threads are not a bad idea./ But if we do that, no limit on attacking the noobs who post questions that are covered by a sticky. If they are that stupid, we don;t need them here, using up bandwidth.

Not all.... you can't forget "DG" ;)

Dave..... Although flaming noobs sounds fun..... maybe we should let em get a post or two in before we send em off to e30tech or BF.com On second thought...... screw it.... we should be able to flame away.

I'll say it again..... this community is being stressed by something that simply is nothing in a nutshell. Daily there are new members and we keep conversation going. What are the mods suggestions as to what can make the place better? Other than banning losers? ;)

That thread Jarvis linked to was an example of both noobs being dicks (ethreats, now banned for one month) but also of people getting frustrated too quickly helping someone out.

We aren't all expert mechanics, but that doesn't mean we can't work on our cars. If it takes him 6 tries to get the voltage regulator off then that's what it takes him. We can't just tell him to take his car to a shop out of frustration.

If we're willing to learn more ourselves and share our information, we have to be able to take the time - as much as needed for the person asking - to get them to understand it.

Dave's idea of a "grace" period is a good one, but something that shouldn't be official. If you read a post and you want to flame the guy, jsut look at how long he's been a member before firing away. If he's a new guy, chances are he hasn't searched and/or doesn't know. If that's the case, it's our job to teach him. If he starts in with an e-cock - then go nuts. But if it's just ignorance - we have to take it easy.

And no more of this "take your car to a shop" bullshit. We wouldn't be on this forum if we had no interest in DIY - even if you're not good at it.

PS - that thread was cleaned, sorry to any posts deleted, but on topic stayed and off color didn't.

Sounds like everyone needs to relax a little- why all this talk of "attacking" noobs?? You make it sound like it's OK for me to slam you if you happen to post a question about something that I think is stupid, or easy or whatever- but it's NOT OK.

Is it just me, or does it seem like alot of controversy is started by a certain person with a certain car, when he starts making posts that he KNOWS are gonna get people fired up. I'm not saying that this person should be banned, but perhaps the Mods will need to keep a close eye on his threads from now on, and lock them up tight before they get out of control???

I agree 100%. The flaming shouldn't need to be controlled by mods. We should care enough to teach those that know less.
