    Sears = Douchebags.

So awhile ago I bought a really nice jack for myself from Sears.

I bought the jack with Ted and Ken back in Oregon, because Ted's jack shit out on us, and both thier cars were immobilized in my driveway.

I checked all my photos and found the ones from this day, Jan 30th 2005.

Jack came with a 1 yr warranty.

The jack recently shit out. Will jack fine without a load on it, but will not raise a car. I checked the fluid level, and topped it up with jack oil.

I called up the local Sears (thankfully) before taking it in to inquire if they had one in stock to exchange. They said they had 10. Cool.

I asked about the warranty to make sure, they said 1yr. So I was about to hang up and the woman said make sure you bring your receipt.

I explained I don't have one, and I've never needed a receipt to exhange a faulty/broken Craftsman item in the past. Generally you just slap in on the counter and they ring you out on the new one.

She tells me to call the store I bought it from, and have them fax the computerized invoice to this store and that would be fine.

I call the store I bought it at in Albany OR. They claim they have no such system and no way of pulling up a record of this nature.

I call back the local Sears and explain this. They pretty much tell me tough shit toodle loo.

I want a new jack dammit, infact I NEED a working jack.

    What should I do?

I'd bring it in and personally talk to them. Works better to do things face to face when there are technicalities like that.

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

Only makes sense that you would need a reciept on a time sensitive warranty. Reason you haven't needed one before is because most of their other stuff is lifetime so a reciept would prove only how old the piece they are replacing is. Whats to say that you didn't buy the jack 3 years ago? They don't know that other than believing your word.

ahhh, now that your dealing with a real life problem your panties are all in a jumble..jk, i would prob ask here too if I had a problem like this.

you could try calling sears corporate, explaining your unsatisfactory customer service, and explain your situation. They may beable to contact the store in OR, and contact the store in TX, and make a resolution. Or they might have more information on how to resolve it. Did you pay cash? or CC, or check? if you didnt use cash, maybe you could take in a bank statement.

Can't really help you, but I bet I can guess what made the jack die. When you aren't using it, do you tighten the handle back down, or leave it loose? If you leave it loose, for some reason, I don't know why, the jack will die. I have no idea why this is, or even if it is true, but it's a might-as-well as it only takes a couple of seconds to do.

I'd bring it in, act like I never had a conversation with them, if asked for a receipt I'd say it was a gift on my last Birthday (which has to be less than a year ago) and tell them it is Craftsman, all non electric Craftsman items I have ever had were lifetime warranty items and ask to speak to the Manager of the store if they do not give me my god given right new item.

I did this with a dremel which was not Craftsman and is electrical and it worked without manager intervention (just the request for the manager did it)

                Hope this helps.

On another note I have a huge tow truck (betting stolen from one) jack I bought almost 15 years ago from a pawnshop it was used when I got it and I never tighten it after use and it works great (towards the top it gets a bit sluggish)

that sounds like it would work.

Maybe its just an oring or somethin that blew, or did something physically break on it?

You dont need a receipt with the lifelong warrantee on hand tools. But I had one of their jackstands bend when I was under the car. Took it back and had a bitch session, and they said the 1 year warranty stuff needs a receipt. Almost identical experience, but with the Salem Sears. To top it off they give sometimes give you a hard time with the hand tools too. In college the guys in my fraternity tried to dig out a stump with a basic shovel. They snapped the handle 4 times, and kept on going back to sears to get a new one. The manager got a little pissed. Oh well. Really the only reason I buy sears tools is the warranty, but some of their crap is getting more and more cheaply made, unless you get the craftsman pro stuff which is usually twice as much.

I think I would have paid with cash. If I didn't it would have been with my OSU Federal debit card.

History doesn't go back that far on the website sadly.

sorry to hear about the problems.

But other than that, how did you like the jack? Is it low enough to fit under your car without putting blocks under the tires?
How many inches can it raise?

I need a good low-profile jack that has a good height. Mine sucks. Not only do I have to put blocks under my tires (which is just a hassle), it doesn't raise it enough to put a decent size jack stands under it.
