Anyone ever do a v8 swap into an ix?

I was thinking today about just random BS I'd do if I had a lot of money.

and doing a v8 swap into an ix came up and I wondered if it was even feasible?

Would the additional power turn the transfer case into a pile of metal shavings? or has someone accomplished this challenging task.

I realize it would be no small feat to do this, but this was just daydreaming and speculation, really.

He's keeping the M20, though: just doing some redesigns.

I'm talking full 5.0 liter ford performance motor shoved in there. It would be possible with a lot of custom fab to get it to mate with the drive train, but would it shred the stock transfer case and awd drivetrain is what I'm asking.

well if i recall, didnt he turn his own shafts for the transfer case? but if youre looking to do a 5.0 swap, then i dont know how it would work unless you were to get a 5.0 with a trans and tcase from like a ford truck. and then you would still have problems getting driveshafts work. a lot of work, and even then your weakest link is going to be those axles. and m60 guys have problems with half shafts snapping so im sure you looking at a lot of trouble. just go get a subbie or a talon if you want awd and lots of power lol

          Alright yeah makes sense.

I wasn't really seriously going to do this, though lol. It was curiosity born from a daydream.

I don't know why if you had a bunch of money you would use a ford 5.0 unless it was a coyote

just scaned thru the thread.. but i think the future swap on the IX's will b m50 because they made 5speed x5 in m50, and in a few years when those start going to yards, they will get picked dry.

You would need an engine from a car with AWD already. The front driveshaft goes through the oil pan, so that complicates things a lot. Diff needs room to mount up there as well. Handling the power would be the least of your worries.

dont quote me on this, but if i heard levent correctly the other day, he said something about a 5 series wagon awd swap in a ix. dont remember the motor or the exact details.

I believe On A rb26 the driveshaft goes through the oil pan it's not a v8 but 1200hp is possible

Im wondering if taking a engine out of an audi or a new 325xi would be possible. I be it would be with enough fab and a smart guy behind it.

I do believe one guy on bimmer forums did do an m50 swap on an ix a while back, not easy but anything is possible.

Ya I wouldn't worry about power, I know of a few boosted ix's with over 400hp. The front drive line would be the worst part I bet. There are a few s50 swapped one also. But the fabrication required is insane from what I heard.

Not sure how this hasn't been mentioned yet, since it's probably the closest thing OP is going to get: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=235274

Ford 5.0 in an ix? Why?

Also, how deep are your pockets?

Why not do an awd twin turbo v12 with a mclaren f1 swap while wee're on the subject? Maybe with a 2013 Nissan Skyline drivetrain swap? ;)
