I would be one, but my e30 is sitting with a dead battery and needs a lot of maintenance. Although then again, I can't stand the kids who come there talking out their ass about a bunch of shit and I calmly sit there thinking of how stupid they sound. Maybe it's just me, but it irks the hell outta me.

Well there's plenty of dumb people out there.. but I enjoy car meets because you do meet some interesting people, and like the cokgbler above mentioned, the networking is great. I've found I'm never stumped trying to find a part because I've always got local numbers I can text to try and figure things out, and they all came from meets.
And being able to see other cars in real life is a lot cooler to me, seeing pictures online is great, but it's not every day you see a bunch of them right in front of you!
Mostly it's just a matter of being social, I just moved across the country on an internship, and it's nice being able to meet up with people with a common interest, being on r3v you automatically have friends all over the country!

I started going to e30 meets b4 I even could drive. Back then it was about checking the cars out, getting ideas, and meeting other people with e30s. Now I only go to meets to hang with those people that I've met and become friends with. The cars are just the common interest that has brought us all together.

I've been to a few meets here and there for various cars I've owned (Nissans, Subarus, BMWs, vintage cars, etc), but in general I think they're pretty boring if it's just standing around looking at parked cars.
On the other hand, I love being at the track, even if its just a FATT or open run day with a bunch of random cars running, or if its Porsche day, or whatever. Not big-time races like Indy or F1 or NASCAR. Just any event where people get together with their cars and go fast. Preferably a track with turns. I don't mind standing around in the paddock talking about someone's car parked there - as long as that car either just got off the track, or is about to go onto it....Stage rally/rallycross e30 build/competition journal

When I go to a meet I consider it more hanging out with friends. My non-auto-enthusiast friends joke with me about going to "car meets", but in the end all I'm doing is chilling with the bros.

I'd say I'm a car meet guy, the car scene in Sydney has started to grow a lot recently which is nice I just like wandering around & admiring peoples creativity & the work people put in.
That said I only go to car meet with cars that are actually driven, as I don't understand pure show cars aka trailer queens kinda see it as a waste

No i do not... i would love to go to some bmw car meet and see what the fuzz is all about, but unfortunately i live on Nantucket island. To go to one I would need to make a reservation in advance and then take a 2hr ferry boat ride, and then drive to wherever the event is ...
Its a pain in the a** to get of the island, plus is a f#@%! expensive. The ticket for the ferry alone is around 200$ depending on the season

Yeah, I dig `em, and I've met some really cool people that way. Now I put on 2 Euro meets a year. A WinterTreffen at a really good Austrian restaurant called Grunauer, and the FleischTreffen BBQ/Meet (literally, the Meat Meet) in the summer.
I think if you've picked a good destination, or 'theme,' it helps. Are there sometimes some douchey people there? Yes, but they are FAR outweighed by the cool people that show up!Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.
