Life is short. Do what makes you happy. If an LSX in an m3 is what you want then stuff it in there. I dont think twice about modifying anything I own. I want to build as many cool cars and drive the shit out of them while I still can and I want to do them the way I want them. If a bone stock e30m3 is what turns you on , I totally get and respect that too. but in 20 years a well built modified e30m3 will be desirable as well.
the fortunate thing is you and a few others have worked in your favor. Which is great to your company and wallet.

If it were up to me, I'd only swap in any M-engine. S14's probably usually sell to people refreshing neglected M3's anyways.
Either way, any E30M3 roaring on a track brings a bigger smile to my face than one parked at a car show.Comment

sold the s14 and tranny for 7100 bucks (separately) So I have negative 2600 bucks into my car. I can now afford to throw some money at it and make it the way i want to make it.. May make some angry along the way to cut it up but its mine.Comment

Fusion, at least it was driven to a carshow and enjoyed. I know of several m3's that have been stashed away long term, some have even been in pieces for years because the owners are so anal. A couple of guys don't drive at night because they believe the risk of having an accident is higher. It's crazy but then they also have the most immaculate cars. They don't care about bragging rights or notoriety. They covet the car.
Great deal Steve...$4500??? Wow, it is nice to be in the business. No need to explain yourself. Do what makes you happy. The thing is if everyone did swaps...we wouldn't have any s14 powered m3's left and that's a shame. A Mc Henry once stated, don't worry there will be plenty of (s14 powered) M3's left...swapping a few wont make a difference. Fast forward 10 years and we are seeing the effects. Over half the m3's for sale now are swapped with different engines.Last edited by reelizmpro; 01-19-2014, 04:04 PM."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

I have this argument all the time with various people. I enjoy all aspects of the car scene and I would have no problem gutting an e3o m3 to make it what I want. I think too many people get caught up in the "collector car" mentality. I would rather see someone gut one and use it for what it was made for then see it sitting in a collection gathering dust.Originally posted by blunttechLevent guzzles vanilla hazelnut creamer like its my semenComment

I'm all for modifying a car, but do it so any mods can be easily reversed. You might not reverse them, but the next guy after you might want the car as a stock car. Any parts I change I keep so that I can return the car back to stock if I should want to sell it.
I love taking the M3 to either an autoX or one of the autoX schools I help run. It always grabs everyone's attention and is often the only E30 M3 there for either the autoX or a full track day (the schools run in conjunction with regular track days) I always have people asking if they can get a ride along and I usually say "get in".

This is getting beat to death but the car hobby is supposed to be fun. Fun means different things to different people. I respect the guy who wants a bone stock garage queen just as much as the guy who wants an LSX powered e30m3. We all love cars. As long as Im not molesting your car it should not matter to anyone what anyone does. Just share the love of cars and sit back and watch yours appreciate in value because of what im doing to mineComment

This is something I'm seeing with Datsun roadsters. Everyone is ditching the correct motors for KA24s or SR20s. The sad thing is that the stock 2L can be built to have as much if not more hp at the wheels than either the KA or SR come with stock, for less than the cost of the swap. The excuse being that the U20 is a rare and delicate motor. Delicate its not, the rods make a big block chevy look small (1100 grams each, and they are forged.) Yet, every year when I attend the annual Solvang Datsun Roadster show, fewer and fewer real cars show up and in their place are swapper cars that everyone fawns over. I seriously don't get it. If you feel you need a different motor than what the car came with, you bought the wrong car. It drives me absolutely crazy. I think for this year I'm not even going to bring my car down for it since its a serious PITA to do (needs 95+ octane so I have to buy leaded race gas and add it to 91. I can get down, but getting home is another story unless I fill the trunk with 10 gallons of 110 leaded so I can get home the tank is only 10 gal as well and it gets 20 mpg on the freeway if I'm lucky.) I might show up for an hour or so, but its not worth bringing the car down since few people appreciate it. Its also a vintage race car so it looks period correct, but is far from unmodified, so I end up lumped in with the swapper cars that aren't even real 1600s or 2000s anymore.
