I dunno, I think once E30s have been completely gone through, they don't need much beyond brakes, tires, oil, and wheel bearings. Going through them that one time, though, can be pricey, and getting a solid base is almost uneconomical these days.

If you're patient with your search, you can find something that's already set up for what you plan to do ($ saver) and stay around your budget. I present to you Exhibit A:

P.S. How come there's no Rob option in this poll? ;)Rides...

I think a non-m e36 is your best bet if you actually want something with power. If you can deal, miatas are also great track cars and will teach you a lot.paint sucks

Thanks, guys. I don't think there is a bad choice, just different ones.
Fox Body is nice because it has more than enough power, so I could leave the engine alone while I gut it and put in a cage, and eventually go IRS.
Miata and MR2s are both good because I wouldn't really need to touch anything other than add some safety equipment. Rubber size (heh) isn't a real issue since I'd probably be happy with stock power anyway.
The EG is my darkhorse. Lots of fun and cheap, plentiful parts. I don't mind FWD much and I could fit my spares into the back.
Decisions...have a few weeks to decide and start the search.2011 1M Alpine white/black

Plus, you could grow that mullet out to a respectable length and no one would even look twice.
