It's been done. Most people doing stuff like this are usually pretty quiet, the hate build quickly when a honda motor is involved.

Apparently had issue with the board for using a dry sump and had to remove the external oil box, appealing the decision.. was done for oil starvation purposes and apparently they felt the engine is quite long and it made sense to go dry sump with what looks like a huge oil canister. Fined for the first round of I believe a 6 hour race for advantage

      cool race

A sweet combo that demands and deserves to be on track.

That on/off throttle transition looks brutal.

I love how this thread transformed from how an S5X swap will ruin an E30 (it doesn't) to talk about oddball 4 cylinder engines from all sorts of different car manufacturers. :)

For last few nights, my dreams have been occupied by thoughts of a Metric Mechanic M42.

What's an M20 weigh? Does anyone know off the top of their head?

                    362lbs sound right?

Around 170kg once you get rid of A/C and P/S.

                          So that's 375lbs with accessories
328.5lbs for the M52 in the same trim

NANDO, how sure are you about the S54 weight?

IMO an e30 should be light an agile (this coming from a rally fan)

Bmw raced this plat form with powerful 4cylinders and racing transmissions for a good reason.. S54 is a beauty but track wise..

I'm building a rally e30 and thinking a built 4cylinder says "Legendary group B" all over it.

BMW quotes the weight of the S54 at 217kg, or 478lbs.

                                It affects handling.

The front end feel is blunted. By comparison an E30 M3 feels extremely easy to control and crazy easy to pitch the car exactly to the attitude you want it to be at. However, it is hard to ignore the power and torque of the S54. You control the car's attitude with throttle.

An S54 (and the S50/S52) fundamentally change how you drive an E30 on the track. The car is still lightweight and predictable, but stock for stock you have around 80% more power at the wheels than a bone stock, healthy S14. It's very hard to ignore.
