Idiots at tire stores SUCK!

I have been putting up with my car shaking horribly every since I had a set of General UHP tires put on the rear. My horribly fried ES100's are on the front. I was waiting until I can get around to doing the camber kit on both front and back and a fresh E36 steering rack before I replace the other 2, just keeping the car sitting more than I would like.

I pulled the wheels off today and re-polished the lips inside and out (blinging, yO). When I retorqued, I did so carefully...Hmmm...no more shake.

I am convinced that the incompetent fucks at the tire shop did a shitty job lug-centering my wheels!

Moral of this post? If you are experiencing vibration or shaking, FIRST get your car off the ground and carefully re-torque your wheels, after loosening them.

What a difference! No more tire store jockeys working on my car, ever.

Do you have shitty ebay wheels that have poor offset and wont allow the hub ring to sit inside the wheel?

The same can be said for those "speedy" oil change places. I've heard of horror stories where these places do a pathetic job of tightening the oil drain plug or the filter itself. Some of the people who are actually working the cars look a bit scary. Always double check their work after you get the car back.

Its a good college job, they work around my class schedule, i make a decent buck and have good fringe benefits. Use of tire machines, access to used tires for the general lee to burn off, lifts, specialty tools and an alignment machine!!

I actually drove past a Quickie Valvoline oil change shop today. Thought it was odd that they had a tow truck halfway in the bay since they dont service big rigs typically. Closer look and the cars front right wheel was dropped int othe center bay. Talk about dumb fucks.

I had the same shake problem with them not centering them right. I also bought new tires and they put on weights without taking the old ones off, so I had to take them back and have them rebalance, fuckers!

No, they are Niche, hubcentric, lugcentric AND correct offset...made for the E30 specifically. No hub centering ring necessary. Only 4 sets ever made it to the US. Rare and not to most peoples taste, but they are a perfect fit.

BTW, Mr. Tire Jockey, offset would have nothing to do with a poor mounting making the car shake, right?

As far as your "turtning wrenches" around my complaining ass...you might want to check my resume. I would bet I have been "wrenching" longer than you have been "breathing", since you are a collage kid.

You may actually take pride in your work, maybe even realize that peoples lives depend on your doing you job well...but you must admit that the average "tire jockey" fucking blows at his job.

Most so-called "Installers" in my industry suck as well. I still take pride in my work. I still do the best work I possibly can, no matter the car or customer.

I also stand behind my work. If a customer has any issues, I attend to them immediately.

Unlike the whiny fuck who torqued my wheels poorly and un-evenly.

My experience is to stick with the smaller indepedent shops. Chances are the guy who owns the shop works there as well and keeps a closer eye on things. Chain stores are much more rip shit and bust.

I used to work for a smaller tire shop so that opinion probably bias but pretty justified after having tires put on backwards at a chain store. I hate getting tires done because you got know idea if they doing it properly. ie at my shop it was always new valve stem, anti-sieze on the wheel nuts, watch the wheels balance, inflate, deflate then re-inflate, mount the tire according to sidewall markings, etc. Some might consider that overkill but should stop any problems such as the original poster had.

I will say it bothers me when the tire shops around here impact my lugs on without a torque stick. I'd feel much better if they used a torque limiting stick, or even better hand torquing, but thats not going to happen at a high volume shop.

no shop around here would have the customer drive the car into a bay. they take the keys.

My favorite part is when the guy behind the counter trys to tell me I really wanted all seasons when I was trying to buy the BFGs. I tried telling him several times that I had dedicated snow tires, but he insisted that I wanted the all seasons because it rains a lot here.. duh, I've lived here all my life, I kinda realize what's required of a tire to drive in the rain. just sell me the fucking tires I want! FWIW, the KDW2s kick ass in the rain.
