How to insure an E30 Touring?

I'm picking up an E30 Touring tomorrow and am having trouble getting insurance. State Farm won't cover it because it doesn't meet US emissions and Hagerty won't cover it either. I had trouble getting a straight answer from Hagerty, but I think they were telling me that they have a limited list of 1980's BMWs they will cover, and the E30 Touring is not on the list..

So.....where do those of you who have Tourings or other euro models get them insured?

Did you talk to a Hagerty agent in person?

If you're not going to daily it, and will garage it, I'd be surprised if they didn't offer
some type of policy for it?

Thanks Toby. I did speak to Hagerty. The rep was not very forthcoming with info. If needed, I'll try them again.

I did get State Farm to give me a liability only policy, so I can at least drive the car home and get it registered..

Also found a similar thread on a Land Rover site, and they are getting full coverage for 1970s euro LRs from Chubb and Progressive, so I'll be contacting them also.

What about Grundy if you want to do the classic car insurance? They seem to be more laid back in when it comes to what they allow when compared to Hagerty.

Liberty mutual will cover it for stated value n don't care if it's your DD. They are a club sponsor

We have Safeco for the daily- driven 2002's, with agreed value.

Don't know if that helps for non-US cars, though.

The emissions thing makes no sense since it'll be 25 years old. Does state farm know that? Its still listed as a 325i/318i whatever the engine is on title's so you can probably just insure as a 325i. Is it the euro or the body style they have the problem with is my question.

Heard back from Chubb - they don't offer collector car insurance in NC.

I'll try Liberty Mutual (club sponsor!) and then Grundy.

Wschnitz - State Farm's problem is the euro vin. I can call the car a 325i all day, but they can tell that the vin is euro.

Just an update, since I started this thread.

1. State Farm would only give me liability, no collision or comprehensive. I needed insurance ASAP in order to buy the car, so I went with them and kept shopping.

2. Liberty Mutual has a deal with the BMWCCA - discount rates and only BMW OEM parts for repairs. I got a BMWCCA quote from them that seemed reasonable, and asked the agent about an agreed value policy. He said they would do it, but the "agreed value" he offered me was anything but. They would not set a dollar amount, and the full value payout was the LESSER of an appraised value or FMV. I ended up going with the standard BMWCCA policy: $399 for 250/500 liability, $500 deductible collision and $500 deductible comprehensive. I was happy enough with the price that I moved my E30 vert over from State Farm also. Same coverage is $430 per year for the 'vert.

I didn't have any issues, went through USAA. Sort of the same deal as the DMV where the 'system doesn't like the VIN' but they just force it through.

Give Hagerty a call. You should always insure your classic cars with Hagerty. I had my wagon insured for 15,000 dollars, full coverage. I had a premium plan too. It was 309 for the year.

Just go to Hagerty's website and request a quote.

What about getting coverage that doesn't suck for those of us who DD our cars and aren't lucky enough to have garages? Hagerty doesn't do that, do they? I don't have a touring, but getting good coverage on my E30 is still a concern of mine. I read something about Grundy offering something like that, but that's it.
