          Well .... if we are going total pie-in-the-sky here.

          M70 with IDF downdraft carbs and 10" chrome stacks through the hood.

          Slightly less wild option .... same idea with an M30.

            Epic no budget bimmers deserve the v10. It's like the M156/159 AMG equivalent, you won't ever be able to keep a straight face when it blasts your car sideways.

            S70 if it wouldn't ruin the fun of driving anything else.

                          M54/n52 have superior tq curves while being way lighter. The appeal of the m30 is mostly period correctness and cost.

                                if money wasn't an issue and I had it my way though, I would build a high rpm short stroke 4.8 ls1 or an S54 with big cams and a vanos delete.
                                = Heidi 1988 325 -> 335i. 7200rpm built M30
