Yes, nothing some gearing cant fix. I love the feeling of a cam and the sound of a hot idle. Variable valve timing is for pussies. I highly doubt you'd notice the low end torque loss in a 2500lb E30 with proper gearing anyway.
Heres a vanos delete s54. just listen to the part where its idling. For real men only... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYeL9dGLxCI

Poll options suck.
Fully NA built KL V6. 120kg, 12,000RPM, 2.5 V6.
Custom light weight V8 like the H1V8.Comment

If you want a rough idle, just alter the vanos map for more overlap.Yes, nothing some gearing cant fix. I love the feeling of a cam and the sound of a hot idle. Variable valve timing is for pussies. I highly doubt you'd notice the low end torque loss in a 2500lb E30 with proper gearing anyway.

Deleting vanos doesnt make more power. Deleting it would just lose q bunch of torque - pointless.

I didn't say I'd delete VANOS for more power. I'd delete VANOS for simplicity and ease of tuning AND the sound of course. It would not be a stock S54 by any means, cammed, blueprinted, balanced, and making a bit more power than stock.
YES, you would loose some around town drive ability, but I wouldn't be driving it around town much anyway. To each his own I suppose. I like doing things differently for my own reasons. I think a high strung S54 would be a very unique, revhappy powerplant that would fit the character of the E30 very well. Im sure I'd get some "that's not how you do it", but Ive already gotten a ton of that with my current build. I will say, I love the attention.= Heidi 1988 325 -> 335i. 7200rpm built M30Comment

^didnt know that was an issue, but sure. Theres another reason to delete vanos.= Heidi 1988 325 -> 335i. 7200rpm built M30Comment

it's not that big of an issue. it can be fixed, and it doesn't happen most of the time anyway.
but it's all pie in the sky talk anyway, right?Comment

I know I'm much too late to this thread but I would think the s65 out of the m3 GTS (because of weight reduction) would be a fantastic beast of an engine

I went m30 because I love them and after driving a big turbo'd 635csi, I love them even more.
N52 would be a cooler swap though.1988 M6 - The real project.

4g63 would be a pretty cool setup. Capable of all the power you could ever want, while being compact and light weight for tossing around. No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment
