So it seems like the only vehicles that will carry the "drivers spirit" will be in the M division only from now on. no longer the standard in every model..... get an older bmw while you can before the spirits are dead.

also what makes a bmw a bmw is the " groceries are good for the week, ima take the long way home and enjoy some spirited driving while I'm driving" feeling.

Inline 6 manual trans and rwd

That means my x5 is not a Bmw which is fine with me it is nothing like my e30 or even my 335i its quick in a straight line but nothing else to write home about as far as driving goes

          the smell of the interior
the feeling of driving a tank while having agility. Every BMW drives the same.

BMWs are more like appliances these days.

Unless you buy an Mcar but even then you get fake engine noises.

I think if you want the performance car feel like older BMWs you should get a porsche.

Right on the money, at least in almost every newer model

Old bmw's around here are driven either by old people who owned them from new or 'young' enthusiast.

And what about the rear end, 30/36/46 all look familiar from the rear

I was being sarcastic, though I am not a fan of drive by wire.

based on what exactly? it's not like it's electronic steering where you get feedback through the throttle cable. And it's not like your brain can detect the 0.0003ms it takes for the system to react.

It's not so much the dbw, but how some manufactures make the throttle body do some wonky things like restrict full opening below a certain rpm or hang up the revs on you.

Those can be worked around though, you would never know my car has an electric throttle body.

Also the delay idea is ridiculous. RPM is controlled by more than just the throttle plate. Even if you have a cable, you need the tps to signal coming off idle so the motor doesn't bog. Ignition and fuel is all electronic, so adding in a electric throttle plate isn't ever going to make a damn bit of difference to throttle response. Cost of parts, sure.

I was quite a fan of the electric power steering my rx8 had. It was very nice.

Loved it on my MKV too. Tight when it needed to be, soft when it needed to be. Pretty cool stuff.

the interesting thing is restricting the throttle opening at lower RPM can actually increase torque output.

personally I'm a fan of engines that don't need a throttle at all. :p
