It's been dying for a while now. I would be willing to bet that toyota placed the FR-S in the Scion line as a last-ditch effort to get people to buy scion as an attempt to salvage brand recognition

it's a Kenny Powers quote on wheels

Going the same way as the Mercedes Benz / Maybach project. To much, to big, to fast. Seems like all of the corporations who flooded the country with un-neccesary product are now taking a step back. Starbucks, Walmart, etc.

MINI will die next, at least in the US. Talk about missed target, the latest MINIs are being marketed towards the only people that bought them in the first place... Old folk (Think PT cruiser people only stranger)

I kinda doubt that. Around here at least, even with their horrible record of eating motors and such - there is tons of them.

Sure to the rust belt and Suburbia they don't make sense, but for those that live in/near/commute in and out of the downtown core, they still make sense.

I never saw any point to the creation of Scion in the first place, what did it accomplish to spend all of that money creating a new brand? What could it possibly accomplish? Scion was one of those stupid brands that was just a waste of time and effort because it meant mean nothing. Look at Chrysler/Dodge, there isn't any reason for them to be separate, they're the same crappy products, and what separates them in reality? A trim level.

Some brands have a coherent product line that makes sense on its own, but that is not the case for most of the automotive industry. Some used to mean something but don't anymore. Jeep, for instance, sells one vehicle that actually makes sense in the scope of the brand, the rest is just rebadged and rebodied crap that only harms the brand's image. The one that really got me recently was the separation of Dodge trucks into the "Ram" brand. WTF was the point of that? Seems like a move some upper level marketing schmucks pulled to justify their existence within the company.

Nope! Those things are very popular despite their issues. They're not going anywhere.

                  different trim, different demographic.

why sell to one group when you can sell to two? or three?

Why spend a bunch of money on a new brand when you can just sell the trim to the same customer without the money spent on branding? Two or three? Nobody is going to buy a Chrysler who wouldn't buy the same car with a Dodge badge on it.

Not a chance, any dealership in a metropolitan area is selling them well. Truthfully Im sorry they are getting bigger, but the smallest version is fun as hell to drive, surprisingly, my parents have had one since 2006 and it has had only maintenance and runs fantastic almost 100k miles later.

MINI failed miserably selling cars to the generation that the cars were originally marketed towards, now they are scrambling to rebrand themselves. Mark my words.

Mini sales figures are struggling. Its a car that deserved to be brought back but by someone who knew what they were doing, not by BMW. I would love to see Mini sale tank hard and BMW sell them off to Tata motors or something. They've really turned Jaguar and Land Rover IMO.

^ they're just keeping up with current events. It's trendy to transcend stereotypes. It works on their target audience: chic and non-mechanically inclined.

Honestly I'm glad to see that kind of shit come from a car company first rather than some political bullshit
