It depends on the car, I paid a handsome sum, but have been researching for well over a year and have been talking to local shops and calculating with parts and labor what it takes to build a car properly and paid a fair price.

I am currently looking to buy a shell to build my own, I will be sending the shell to get dipped and starting from scratch, on a daily basis I am learning as much as possible. I am a avid car guy, very mechanically inclined and will be very involved in the build. I am pleasantly surprised on how much is still available from the dealer , I will be tweaking my recent purchase to my personal liking , and will resale it as my new build comes close to completion , hopefully in about a year! I am anticipating spending $40K on the new build, So do I think EAG'S car is worth 28K....No, but its relative to your own perspective, to me is clean/original but still just a old 25yr car with a m20....to me its worth $15-18k

No, because the price paid is based on demand. You can list your car for whatever you like, but unless somebody is willing and able to pay, its not going to sell.

Well the demand is high enough for some of these prices to sound reasonable to some it seems like

Not complaining. If the market is driving up than it will make our cars more valuable in the future. Who knows, maybe some of us who have dumped way to much into our E30s will see it back one day

i think the opinions that people are always expressing are based on what they-as frugal r3vers would pay if only they had the money. those silly opinions really are not based on the value of the actual car. whenever there is an almost daily pissing match about the value of an e30, i just shake my head and laugh at the low ballers. really, it is nothing more than that. just because someone says an e30 m3 is still with 20k, doesn't mean that it is.

not only is the market for e30's changing, so is the demographic of this forum. as time goes on, there will be less and less penniless high schoolers to share opinions like this.

a year and a half ago, my wife and i were looking very seriously at buying a ferrari 550. back then, you could get into a good one for under 70k. i saw the value going up fast, but we chose not to buy one because i was in the process of looking for another job during that time. for people in my line of work, along with that would come a big pay cut. today the same car is easily 150k+. in my mind, i still want to pay half that but this doesn't mean that there is a seller out there willing to meet my price. i've accepted that my opportunity to buy this car has long past.

to a lesser extent, this is what is also happening to our cars. there are still going to be tons of people wanting to pay 3 grand for a fine example, but as days go on, there will be less and less available to meet that "demand".

Well said. I saw the same thing happen in the classic Mustang market in the 90's.

Maybe this will help to put things into some sort of perspective for others. I want a Porsche. Am I willing to shell out at least 30k to get a basic Porsche 911 or spend similar money and get a E30 M3 that has pedigree, racing history and is a willing and amazingly balanced car? For some, they still want the Porsche, for others is easy. Theres more people willing to spend money on these analog cars and the E30 is definitely on the radar. EIG has made an awesome business that finds the top notch examples and charges a premium for it. They have a great business model and Im quite jealous of them.

So in short, yes the market is changing. Buy your E30 now

                                lol 28K for a white e30?

                                its certainly very very clean.

Maybe an 18K car but 28? I think this comes down to if you want a nostalgic car with low kms you don't want to have to restore and can just look after.

In hindsite it would of been cheaper than restoring mine and buying a car of that quality to begin with but wheres the fun in that!
