There is no way that car has been in California it's whole life. Look at the diff and muffler corrosion.

That's why they are hiding the carfax, it was probably someone's collage car in SLC or the salt belt..

I lived in Daly City (Pacifica) for a couple of years. Had a brand new FZ750S Yahama that I had to leave outside but covered. The salty ocean fog ate away at it in just a few months!

... and as to the unconventional rusting, I agree- it's wacko.

But from having seen a lot of different patterns, it MIGHT have solid sills and floors,
something you'd NEVER see in the salt/rust belt. Airborne salt is a weird one.
As is salt spray from living a block from the ocean.

I'd pay $500 for it, at least. Anything more... well, I was never much for gambling.

I have been living in the salt belt forever and my car has only one visible rust spot. I have also lived in Florida for four years and I can tell you that living near an ocean can do some serious damage to the car if you don't wash it every week.

Current bid $8,477, these bidders are nuts. Sure, the interior is nice, but a low mileage drivetrain is of low importance compared to a rust-free body IMO. Even the relatively problem-prone M42 still has plenty life left at twice that mileage if not neglected, but that rust will cost thousands to fix. I'd rather rebuild an engine than strip a car down to the shell to fix the rust. Most car people I know would have a rust free roller with good paint over this complete car with its low mileage drivetrain.

I bet it sells for like 10k and the guy that has winning bid realizes what a pile it is and then flakes on seller.

The ones bidding for this car are looking for quick profit. They will patch up all the rust, paint it, then turn around and sell it for profit.

Yeah, maybe the ol' bondo and maaco. Doing it right would probably cost half of the current bid price.

Boy, if the bid is up to 8,500 for that POS, 5,600 for my 92 325iC seems like a pretty good deal!

There are two retracted bids. That is unusual. Unless someone owns a body/paint shop and has plenty of spare time, investing in this car near the current bid amount does not make any sense. This car needs a full body restoration. Again, if this was a E30 M3 or a pre 1974 Porsche 911, go ahead and spend the big bucks for a full body restoration. At the end of the day after all the money is spent on a restoration, you will have a "restored" car with new body panels etc. competing against nice original E30's(they are still out there).

I'm betting the new owner will flip it after some body work is completed.
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

                                that poor poor sod.

hopefully it was an error and he meant to write $900 as a bid.
