If your 30m from work, ask a co-worker to grab you, you get a rental. I didn't drive my car for a bad blower motor and got a rental. As I got older. Playing it safe makes more sense to me

...my 2002 never had a working blower in the 10 years I DD'd it...

but that said, that is probably an accident that's lined up to happen pretty soon.

        Don't use 1st gear!

        heh

I live in a place that I need defrost daily. So i got a rental while I did it. The burning smell was unpleasant

It still has 2 out of the 4 diff mounting bolts to the sub frame in tact, plus the bushing mount point to the chassis. The ratchet strap is rated for hundreds of pounds and will keep the diff from moving around until my parts show up and I can spend a weekend welding everything together and installing the new sub frame.
If it works Im happy, if I die you guys are all welcome to call me a dumb ass and laugh at me like Im tryna.
I think we are more worried about all the other people you put at risk, and knowing its worked for weeks, means its been getting more weak every day that passes

In for "Hey guys, I r3v'd my car, parting it out.."

I'm with the others, just park it. It's not going to magicaally fix it self while you are driving, so it's only getting worse. And every time you get in the car now, you run the risk of that trip costing between $0 => cost to replace your car and whatever you hit.

Ah, where's your spirit of adventure, Plance?? You could tell your grandkids
"and then, the diff jumped up THROUGH the back seat!!!"

That said, as long as you're gentle, the worst failure mode's gonna be locked rear
wheels. That's not so bad, is it?

                  hee

                  no help here.

Don't drive it. The extra stress on the remaining two bolts in the subframe can't be good and it's a disaster waiting to happen if they fail. Don't want to end up replacing any other parts that could be damaged if something happens.

x2 I think we need a daily update on the tracking of the replacement parts and a twice daily update of you making it to work safely and making it home safely. We could get a pool started and if you (and the car) survive in time for the car to get fixed with no tragedy you get the pool of $$, if someone correctly guesses the date of destruction they win the money

whos in, I have $10 on it

Hahahahaha ok Iv got $10. So who is going to hold the money for everyone?
My drive to and from work is from Edmonds WA, down to south Seattle and back.
I did it yesterday with the strapped diff. There was no grinding of the driveshaft from the diff moving what so ever. No weird vibrations, sounds, or handeling issues.
MR2peak is suppose to be sending me his spare subframe. I hope he does it ASAP.
I have suspension, bushings, and reinforcement plates literally in the mail and on their way to me right now from Catuned, Gargastic, and Condor.
I'm working the night shift at work so I am planning on doing some welding on the subframe before the weekend if it gets here in time. Kinda don't think it will. So I'm going to pull some long weekend days rebuilding the rear end and welding up the coil overs up front.

Yes I guess I am being mildly irresponsible by driving my car, but if I thought there was truly any chance of hurting my self or someone ells I wouldn't drive it. After driving it yesterday it doesn't give me pucker factor anymore.
In all honesty I don't have $50 a day to rent a car or get an Uber. It's a real drain on my account just to get all the parts to fix my car. If I can't get to work, I can't make money, so it's kind of a catch-22 situation. No work, no car. No car, no work. None of my coworkers live near me. They all live further south so no rides to be had there.

I'll update you guys through the next two days so you know if I have wiped out a soccer family on the road or if I made it home safe to live another day in idiocy.

I bet it'll be alright for a few days. I wouldn't risk it though.
