know what you are talking about before you start talking. the hydrogen fuel cells that are being made/ researched use the opposite method than what the guy in the op was trying to use. by taking oxygen and hydrogen and putting them together, electricity is released, captured and used to charge batteries. the problem comes from where do we get the pure hydrogen? and that is what engineers/chemists/biologists are trying to figure out. so this is not a path to nowhere, its actually a path to being less dependent of fossil fuels and nuclear energy. so yea just my

the only problem with nuclear cars is radioactivity, the driver will die by the end of their trip

on a side note, how many engineers does it take to explain the principals of thermodynamics to a regular person?

on a side note to the side not, how many here are mechanical engineers

          HOOOLD ON a sec...

if by that in any way, you are implying that a Hydrogen Fuel Cell is the same as an ICE running on hydrogen your college sucks...its like all the people online talking about HHO as the "atomic" power of hydrogen as if they were turning their cars into nuclear power plants.

A Fuel cell does not combust or burns. It exhaust nothing other than pure unadulterated water (mostly as vapor). Its a completely different breed, animal, race, world and galaxy all together. It basically separates the proton and the electron (hydrogen is 1 proton, 1 electron. #1 on periodic table, simplest element yes?) and creates a current this way...but now you're talking EV's and that deserves its own thread.

meanwhile look up honda FCX and see that fuel cells will be appearing all over. hell, its what i do.

          It is PERIOD.

the trick is to use the nuclear power to charge batteries (electric vehicles) make hydrogen (fuel cells) etc etc etc. what happens with the waste is something that i don't know, all i know its that by all human relative terms, it lasts forever.

This thread is hilarious. I always thought that arguing with stupid people was pointless, unless I'm having fun at their expense. Hey you guys should totally try this at home!!!.. post lots of pictures!! puahahahaha

Do a simple Google or Youtube video search if you want to see the true believers doing it at home. Some of the are priceless but most of them show cars running at idle... not actually going anywhere. And even less of those have any record of mileage before/after. Gee... I wonder why...

As far as fuel cells bering impractical I have one word for you:

                ICELAND

                This is from 2002:
Jón Knútur Ásmundsson reports on Iceland's pioneering research into the use of clean, efficient hydrogen power.

                And more recently:

We have 20+ years' experience in providing fuel cell technology globally. Our hydrogen fuel cell components are helping our customers on the way to net zero..

Their buses are run on hydrogen. As they have a huge amount of geothermal energy they can manufacture power very economically.

Well so much for that idea.

I was out in west texas a week or so ago and I swear I saw at least 2,000 of those huge white windmills. I want one of those bitches in my yard.

I didnt read the article but this does not sound like a "perpetual motion machine". i dont think he's using the alternator to create the Hydrogen. He is taking a cheap energy source (electricity) to create a flammable gas (H) to replace some of the expensive energy source (Gasoline)

That said, it is completely impractical and dumb.

^^ yeah someone please lock this thread....i should drop a bomb on you all though, some hydrogen does make an engine more efficient...just not when generated from your alternator
