I too live in north georgia, I called Stricktly german for my m50 stuff. being 17 I have time to do it the fun way, in my garage, but I respect that you have priorities. Your kid will too, and eventually the both of you can wrench together.

PM me if you guys decide to do a meet I would really love to test my skills against other e30 drivers!

Honest question for you Jordan... Do you have pride in your paintjob? I mean you didn't spray it but I seem to remember you accepting compliments for how it turned out even though it's not your work.

It's the guys car and he planned it and had it done the way he wants. Plenty of reason to have pride in it!

Not just time, space. I am paying to have it done sorta. The guy is a friend of my dads and if this network upgrade is done on time I will go down and work on it in his shop and prolly stay with Kyle.

If not I guess you can add me to one of the ones who will pay to have it done. The landlord doesnt really dig people doing engine swaps, the HOA has shit about working on cars. At least I will do all the prepwork ahead of time. Going to do the engine bay mods like brakes and such this weekend so all I need the shop to do is test the motor before swap, cram it in, and wire it. I hope to do the wiring myself because I have OCD.

Props on the mod. Once you get this bitch finished you are REQUIRED to take a shitload of pics of the engine bay and a few videos (with sound) or else I will go back and edit your posts to make you look like a tool. ;)
            Im now E30less.

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me. I'll change my oil and do basic stuff in my garaged carport, but that's about it. The landlord would probably have a problem with most of the stuff I do in there.

-Jordan, who thinks it is very funny that someone would pay $8k for engine transplant.
what a dumb thing to say...

gae30, I bet you are excited about driving that thing around, I know I would, and I would be proud to be driving it too  Good job if you have the $ to pay someone to do that shit for you.

You are an interesting guy. I take pride in my 4 year old son. I take pride in my family and the life I have built for myself. I take joy from my car and the pleasure it gives me. As sad as it is - I unfortunately have too much going on to spend the time to do "major" projects like this on the car right now. So I pay someone - and enjoy the ride.

Now I will say that I admire the work you have done on your car. It looks very nice and I know how much work it has to have been.

But do you always have to be such a jackass?
Sometimes the younger members don't realize what it's like to have a family, full-time job, and other responsibilites and also find the time to work on a car.

Personally I agree with you, I could spend every evening working in the garage or I could be in the house playing with my 1 year old son and watching him grow.

Priorities change, when I was younger all I did was build cars. When My son gets older he'll be in the garage with me. Until then work will get done here and there when I have a chance. Cars can be messed with anytime, I'm not missing this time with him!!
Yep - you and I seem to be on the same page. I spend enough time traveling - to take away time that I am home is not acceptable to me right now - as much as I would love to do some of these projects myself....

I am at a point in my life where I don't have the time or place to do the swap myself, but I am slowly building up an S50. I hear that a BMW shop here in St. Louis can do the swap, but I have to supply all of the parts.
The engine is coming in at 4k - so given the number of other parts they need - prolly another 500 to 1k - so around 2k - 3k in labor.

how much does it weigh now with the new motor?
If I remember correctly the s52 is 70lbs heavier than the m20....I never weighed the car to begin with - so that is all from what I have read....I will say that when I drove the car on the street - I couldn't noticeably tell it was heavier in the front end or anything like that.

I am already planning some mods for the s52 - at the top of the list is a JC Chip and a lighter flywheel.

No pics with the s52 yet - when I drove it they still had some "finish" work to do. I will get pics up as soon as I get it back.

I surely wouldn't want that to happen - pics are easy - and video should be too bad. The sound of the car is interesting - I expected it to be louder - it's mated up to my tri-flow exhaust which I swear was louder on the m20 - again - I have only driven it for 20 minutes - so time will tell.

None of you have the right to have pride in your E30's because you didn't build it and it's not your workmanship.

                            *sarcasm of course*

Nah. My paint looks like shit. There are still numerious mistakes that need to be fixed and or repainted.

                              The body shop hates me.

As far as the spending time with wife and kids comments. Good for you, still... work on your own car. A S52 swap isnt something that should be handed off to a shop.

How do you figure? Do you think it's better left to some guy in his garage with his only references being posts on a messageboard?

The DOHC swap isn't nearly as rare as it was 6-7 years ago, I would say conseveratively, there's at least 250 swapped cars in the US. I know of a bunch of shops on the east coast that do this swap on a regular basis, it's fairly straightforward for them. Find a shop that's done it before, and I see no reason to be hesitant in handing it off to them.
