It is if you don't have the necessary tools, garage space, time, or knowledge of how its supposed to be done.

Honest question for you Jordan... Do you have pride in your paintjob?
Nah. My paint looks like shit. There are still numerious mistakes that need to be fixed and or repainted.

      The body shop hates me.

As far as the spending time with wife and kids comments. Good for you, still... work on your own car. A S52 swap isnt something that should be handed off to a shop.
I do some work myself - like slamming it thru corners - does that count?

Seriously - any project that I can get done in a weekend with the tools I own I do. I will probably replace the rear bushings and such myself - I installed the exhaust myself - etc....

I can See where Jordan is coming from this, but i can also see where others are coming from. Now, myself, if i had the money, i would Love to do a DOHC swap myself. But, knowing my current mechanical abilities, i'd rather not waste a good engine, putting it in incorrectly or half-assed, and messsing something up, leading to ruin-ing a good engine.

ok we get it, not everyone agrees with jordan.

i dont agree with what he said, but i know he has a point.

Did you ever find out your displacement?

Id try and track down some S52 headers for that. Should make a good flow increase.

Im having a shop to the vast majority of the work because I dont have anything but simple hand tools. Not to mention this isnt just a mechanic but a race prep/support shop.
                Im now E30less.

Agreed. I found a set through turner and put them on my S50.

gae30, it's nice to see you have your priorities in order... For myself, it has been a great project and I've had a ton of fun doing it. I'm probably about a week away from firing it up and I cant wait. I've been working on the car since last october, a little here and a little there when time allows...

On the S50 above (in the white E30), what happened to your oil filter housing? Looks like you blanked it out with a custom plate.

Is the red tube on the pass. side of the engine compartment the new oil filter?

Just curious if this is the case and why?

                      Nice looking swap.

do i see dry sump system?

if so i suppose that would eliminate the low hanging oil pan, srcpaed mine the other day, figured the m50 would lock up in a second flat if that thing was to soem how open up!

Yup, it does and you will definatley want to run one. I've got one on my car and Blunt is running one on his car as well. The 5 series pan hangs really low, the skidplate is good insurance.

I am running the VAC 24v oil block(deletes the stock canister) with sender ports, a 25 row Mocal oil cooler, and Peterson oil filter( the red thingy). It's a serviceable filter that you clean with brake-kleen and re-use. The car will get tracked quite a bit so this should save some money on filters in the long run. I figure I will also be able to squeeze in another 1-2 quarts with all of the extra plumbing.
