To me that's a joke from the beginning, they sold all of them on Ebay to get some extra dough, my local dealer had two, retail was $75,000 IIRC, they sold for $92,000 each on ebay.
I wouldn't spend half that on this car, and would rather buy a 10 yo one to have fun with if I was into those cars
EDIT, the old ones are definitely the best of all, hands down

At first I liked these cars to a degree, but recently my view on them has soured. I finally saw one in the flesh and I wasn't all that 'wow'd' by it. To add insult to injury, now there's the news that turing off the traction control (VDC) will void the warranty. Why would a car manufacturer do this if they know it can be a problem? I guess they're just trying to ensure some work for the service departments at the dealerships.

Charlie makes a number of valid points about the driving experience of the GT-R. Far too many gadgets and electronic overlords running this thing. It's great if you are a butterfingers at the wheel - all these aids will help the most talentless driver look good. However from a purists point of view, its not what I would want in a car. Give me RWD, a gearbox I can row myself and a clutch pedal. For the money in question (quality issues aside), I'd get a new Z06 before I consider a GT-R.

Close, Nando, but can you argue with this list?

-nerds who dream of buying something with a new and shiney roundel to help them pick up girls that look like the ones they post
-nerds who wouldn't hand back the keys to a GT-R if offered

              All in good fun!

I don't remember when I first knew of the Skyline GT-R, but I was hooked well before Gran Turismo or the model split (GT-R's are now their own model and the Skyline continues on as a family sedan and coupe). My first brokerage account I labeled "buy Sco a Skyline" back when MotoRex was federalizing Japanese examples for the US. :sigh:

I did see my first R35 GT-R just the week before last... in, of all places, the parking lot at Costco. It was still there when I finished buying some hardware at Lowes so I stopped to take a picture on my phone. As I did, the owner was returning to the car and I got a chance to say hello. He'd never been to a track day though he'd thought about it. He gave me his card and I saw he was with Merrill-Lynch so I wished him well with the merger and offered to email him some dates for future track time. Nice guy and a helluva car.

there are a lot of broke ass college kids here, true, but they're the same ones who oogle over a car they will never own. and there are still lots of people here who could easily afford a "better" car. Some of us just choose to put our extra money elsewhere. :p

I would so buy a corvette over it. It seems like a better buy for the money. I still have some love for the gtr, though.

I had a hard time believing this, so I did some quick research and was shocked to find that this is absolutely true! Straight from Nissan's Warranty Information Booklet:

Still scratching my head on this one, but the prevailing wisdom on the GT-R forums seem to be: FORGET using Launch Control unless you can cover the cost of a new tranny.

ironically the GTR looks best from behind

I like the roofline a lot, but that's about it.
Not that I care, of course.

I personally think this car looks nice, I saw alot when I was in Tokyo. Only a few here in the states thus far.

The appearance and presence of this car is pretty crazy. You can tell off the bat when you see it that its an exotic car.

Everyones raggin on its futuristic looks and the too many gadgets and such but this car has the balls to back up the looks.

i mean look at how it destroys the z06 and the 997 turbo on the track. Maybe they did things wrong when they made the skyline heavier (not like the r34 or r33 were lightweights) but it still owns the competition.

too bad actually driving it on a track pretty much destroys your warranty (and probably your transmission)
