On my old 96 GTI not only did I not know about this feature, I had tried to fold them and felt like I was going to crack it off, so I KNEW they didn't fold.
Then one day I hit it on something, don't remember the situation, made a terrible noise, I got a bad taste in my mouth but alas, the fucker folded! It was the greatest moment of my life.

I found out the hard way too. Slammed myself into it on accident. I didn't know they folded towards the front too though.

The most truly odd car feature (and this is non-E30), is how Saab put the ignition switch in the center console by the e-brake handle. It always struck me as odd yet cool as well.

Another oddity is Porsche putting the ignition on the left side of the wheel. But it makes sense... They put it there so their LeMans drivers could start the car and put it in gear at the same time.

It's cool until something small gets dropped in there and you can't fully insert the key.
At least that's what Saab owners tell me.sigpic

You can cycle thru your OBC display (Time, Date, MPG, Temp, etc...) by pushing the turn signal in towards the steering column on many E30's
Probably the Sport models and Verts, and maybe the IX
If you have the letters "BC" on your turn signal stalk, you have the ability to scroll thru your OBC display by pushing the stalk inwards towards the steering column.sigpic

Most imports have folding mirrors. When they are transported via roro car carrier ship, they are parked about 6 inches away from each other and tied down to the deck with racheting straps. These ships are like floating parking garages with as many as 15 decks. They want to pack in as many cars as possible. Longshoremen jump in and drive these cars fresh off the ship and into a parking lot."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj
