So I just wanted to know if there would be any problems if I shifted a redline everyone once in a while. I have a '85 318i with 160-170k on the motor and still running strong :D. Since this motor is so old with high mileage do I have to worry about hitting the limiter? Or can this engine still take a beating?

I have seen a m10 with 500K+ and he still redlines it but only with good lube of course.

Alright so in that case I shouldn't have problems. I just did an oil change and checked all the fluids a few hundred miles ago. Just last night was the first time I took my car to redline after a while, and when I got off the freeway it smelled like something was burning out of the engine bay.

you probably have an oil leak which is leaking on to your exhaust which is causing your burnt smell

I wouldn't worry too much. I think it's good to let it rev every now and then.

When I had my 86es I missed a shift due to Sciatica which causes numbness and weakness in my clutching foot/leg.

I also had a chip which removes the Rev limiter.

I badly missed my gear and waaaaaay over-revved and didn't spit a busted rocker arm thru the valve cover much to my surprise.

These cars are well-built and won't break if you bounce the rev limiter every now and then.Last edited by E30 Cabrio; 12-05-2008, 04:13 PM.sigpic

this is possible but dont overlook the friction factor. remember that smell and smoke rolling off your buttcheeks while i was pummeling the sphincter dry? i like the fact that you tell him its a possible leak but you have to consider all factors. as i was wiping my dick on your curtains i remember looking at you face down in a heap with a wisp of smoke coming off your ass like fog at dawnComment

I don't know much about m10s but m20s take it with a smile.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.
