well since the forum now owns you, we do own the car. and how about a picture or two of your "progress" instead of defending why you're engine that is down on power and torque compared to the european version while haveing an uncanny resemblence to the m50 is a "real" M3.Leave a comment:

Come on BlueBimmerKid. I've swapped out a few auto's to manual transmission's on e30's and I'm dying to know about your SMG swap with an S14!
I mean, I suppose your going to use the Getrag type D tranny.. But what about an ECU? How about the SMG pump? Just
Okay, maybe you're going with a custom transmission maker.. Then who?
Help me out!!Leave a comment:

So you are admitting that your "sports car" comes with shit suspension from the factory? Good to know...Yes and no: Any stock BMW suspension has soft springs, and is under damped for really sporty driving... Comparing an E30 with Bilsteins/H&R to any stock E30 or E36 it's going to come out ahead.
I have Racing Dynamics springs on Bilsteins - that is what I use for comparison - since nobody keeps the stock springs/dampers for long if they're serious about driving fast.Leave a comment:

HAHAHA its funny how EVERY FORUM USER... regardless of where, or why,"goes straight to the "mom and dad pay" card. I mean really now? im sorry all of you are butt hurt that i dont want to listen to a bunch of idiots on a forum. I have my own way of doing things, AS DO ALL OF YOU, and im sticking to it. Its NOT your car so why the hell are any of you worried about what I'm doing to it? Why do you bunch of "Adults" or "Men" insist on continuing this bash? you call me a "little kid" yet here I am, talking to a bunch of 5 year olds that are pissed that they cant get thier way.
Seriously I cant wait till people like you are drooling over the finished product, because when it comes right down to it thats whats gunna happen. You'll all talk your trash through the build (JUST LIKE THE GENIUSES OVER AT SOCAEURO.COM) And when its done you'll be the same ones taking pictures of every angle. this is the second time so im used to the attention.
No, we just told you why this car will fail..Leave a comment:

Ok:
No.
Yes.

I'm quite serious - but not a purely stock M3 vs the guy's swap car. If we're talking about having the same level of modification done (swap vs e36 + tuning/suspension) I'm confident the E36 will be faster on a race track with 3rd/4th gear turns.
Weight is almost everything but isn't everything, there is a good video on Youtube of some guys with a 500+hp e30 turbo car barely staying ahead of a mostly stock E46 M3 on a track...I'm sure driver skill plays in there but it is a good example.
Well I'm glad you found a buyer, I doubt your car is as fast around a track as a properly prepped '36 but I haven't seen it in person so who knows... My comments with respect to being able to "afford" an E36 are mostly directed at the pure haters who have never driven one and have just convinced themselves their bone stock 325is is the fastest thing on four wheels. To be fair to the cars - you might see M3s on craigslist for 6900 but they will need probably 2-3k of work just to get caught up on maintenance and maybe adding some basic go fast stuff (bilsteins/springs/poly bushings)...
Right, and my issue with that is the motor is not what makes the car - the handling is.Any comment on here about the e36 US market not being a "real m3" is directed at the motor. You would have to agree to that effect that it is an m52 with a bit more displacement and hotter cams. The e36 m3 is a nice car but I preferred my e46 323ci to the e36 m3...
I can't imagine what you would enjoy more about a 323ci over an older M3...even my 328is is faster than non-M E46 cars (the 330i/ZHP being a possible exception)...but I'll take your word for it. The 328is has bilsteins and bigger brakes though maybe in it's stock stock form on a track some E46s might be faster (I've never raced one).
My biggest problem with non-M cars made after '95 is that you couldn't order limited slips anymore as an option, at least not at any dealer I've been to...
I would like to think my car with more horsepower would be faster than an E46 M3 or E92 M3 but if that were true BMW wouldn't have been doing a very good job with their chassis and suspension engineering... It's true they've made more sacrifices than we would like in the interest of luxury and safety but as the cars have progressed there definitely have been design improvements and ideas that allow the cars to handle better and fly around a track when they need to.Last edited by nme36; 08-06-2010, 10:22 AM.Leave a comment:
