numbers are looking good!
Not excited to see that our manifold/tb is even more worthless than I thought...Leave a comment:

Try some colder spark plugs. Just becasue the afr is good doesnt mean you cant still get pre ignition.Standard DASC setup. I dialed it back because once it gets heat soaked it pings every now and then. Havent heard is knock at full throttle obviously but I still dialed it back. AFR is good. Supposedly the setup was bulletproof for e30s but they dont have knock sensors like the e36. I really wish it was more possible to add an intercooler.

I think you could get away with no intercooler if you got a better tune. Post your msq file and maybe I can help a bit moreLeave a comment:

What ignition timing are you running? I am running waaay dialed back timing on my DASC but it isnt intercooled. I need to have it professionally tuned.Leave a comment:

Is your cam timing stock? If so you can retard the intake a few degrees for dome more top end.
You shouldn't be losing traction on the dyno with that level of torque. I know smaller rollers hold less torque. I havent used a dyno with two rollers like that though.
Either way, excited to see the build keep progressing!Leave a comment:

I think it will make a huge difference.

A few things happened that we didnt expect. First off the car would not keep traction. We had to air the rear tires down and even with 3 full size dudes sitting on the trunk it still managed to spin tire. The torque my turbo is creating is quite impressive for an m42.
the rollers are also small and pretty slick. We managed to make it work
Also a note to anyone running a m20 clutch and fly conversion on there m42 with a g240 trans. make sure you cut and extend the clutch slave pushrod. If you dont the cylinder will push out of the slave housing and piss fluid everywhere.
ask me how i know.
Will have a video up soon.Last edited by Dj Buttchug; 08-08-2013, 08:31 AM.Leave a comment:

I was able to get some more tune time. Things are looking up as my goal for 300+ whp is now closer than ever.
blue is torque red is hp. here we are only at just a little over a bar of boost. AFR is below in black. Its a little rich, better safe than sorry...
its falling flat on its face around 6100 revs. the m42 throttle body is just not cutting it anymore. It cant support enough airflow to sustain the engine at anything above 6. I will be making adjustments for a m5x throttle body. A whole new intake is in order soon.

Bit late to the party here. Might I suggest that the baffle in the center their be more designed like the shape of a wing (or halve teardrop) with the flat edge facing the throttle body. That should reduce the swirl you have going on there and increase cylinder 1 velocities.
Other then that I am waiting for the end results :up:Leave a comment:

well the 225s dont work. Im at 8psi running off just the stock wastegate setting and I can light the tires up in 1st and part of 2nd.

One of the few times I will have to disagree with Otis. You should stick with the 4cyl because M42 turbos are unique :) The lure of cheap easy 24v power is hard to overcome though!
On the gasket he is right, too much timing.
Also, did you ever dyno the car? I don't think I have seen a chart for this? Just curious.
The thing about this gasket is that it is from a completely stock NA m42. I have two cars.
Not sure what could have caused this to happen. I take very good care of my engines.
I am to invested in m42s now to back out. I may swap my other car someday but the turbo one is here to stay. :up:Leave a comment:
