Haven't got them repaired yet. I'm getting some mechanical work done first. There's a whole in the exhaust that makes driving a bit of a doosie, brakes n shocks, amongst other things are my priority. I'll be getting it cut n welded out next month. I'll be sure to keep u updated.

I somehow missed the fact that the rear upper spring perches are completely rusted through the frame. I have the spring perches on our parts car, but this definitely killed my motivation.

Had the same problem on my ix, cut and fab is about all you can do but make it strong! I might have a few pictures of how I did mine where.

How long did that end up taking you? I suppose I could tack it up myself, but I'd rather have someone more experienced with structural welding do the job.

                Update:

Put the Auto trans in. My helper (Father) failed to seat the converter correctly and didn't say anything until after I turned the crank for the flywheel bolts and the motor didn't turn over.

Took the trans out, fixed converter (after subconsciously knowing the pump was toast), reinstalled everything. Went for test drive. No bueno.

Took the trans back out AGAIN, swapped the pump with an extra trans I have, and she's waiting to go back in, hopefully for the last time.

Put my new fogs and turn signal lights in, pulled the front bumper (cracked) and the grills (faded) to begin the restoration process on those two guys.

                .....long day.

Took me all day, I reboxed the frame with 1/8 steel iirc. I just used round stock to make that nipple to hold the spring in place.

Like you mentioned it is structural so if you don't feel comfortable then I'd suggest taking it to a professional.

Only pictures I could find on my phone

I actually believe that the rubber spring pads cause rust. it traps moisture and debris between the pad and the body.

years back I removed my spring pads on the top, but left the ones on the bottom. The top was still perfect/clean, but the bottom started to rust! go figure. you'd think it would be metal/metal contact that would rust, but nope.. couldn't even tell!

That sounds about right! Good to know, too. I 'spose I'll experiment by leaving the top piece off when I get around to fixing it.

Getting a welder next week to start learning, so I'm thinking I'll repair it myself once I get more experience under my belt with my own machine.

Also, a stock cat is crazy expensive. Any other options for making a mid pipe? I have a new aftermarket catback, but want to put a cat in the midpipe to quite it down so I'm not fully straight piped.

You can get something like a universal magnaflow cat and throw it in there if you're concerned about price or source one from your local junkyard/pull apart

I can't seem to find a Magnaflow cat with the dual inlets and outlets. I did, however, find this one, which I will probably pick up and throw on.
