I think I'll just try putting the stock lamps and everything back in on Sunday after I get the car back home and then wait for that first kit to come in for $150 that you posted the link to.

Hopefully nothing fried. Sounds like the relay is still cracking on and the fuses aren't blown so maybe the cheap ballasts crapped out... both at the same time?
I was under the impression that the USDM halogen sealed beam connector type was H4/9003. Not sure what the actual sealed beam capsule's designation is...

As far as whether or not your headlight system or ballasts are fried, i can't say. Electrical is not my forte.

Hahahaha, messaged the seller for the cheap 55w hid kit I got about returning the kit and he said, "make sure to put 20 amp fuses for the headlights"

....um, I'd rather not increase my 7.5 amp fuses to 20 amp just because your ballasts have a shitty power spike.

umm, yeeaaahhh...good reason NOT to use his product. that's one way to send your E30 up in flames...

The 35w Morimoto kit has heavy duty relays built in, high quality components throughout and will have consistent wattage usage at operating temps. In fact, once the bulbs warm up they will use less than 35w during use at operating temperature. There is a marginal increase in wattage (sometimes above 35w) while warming up but this only lasts a few moments (when the color of the beam settles, they're warmed up). Nothing like the 55w kit spikes you've experienced and definitely nothing warranting the use of higher amperage fuses.

I think you'll be happy with the Morimoto kit from TRS. I've had ZERO problems with Morimoto and TRS. I've used their kits in previous retrofits on other cars and have never had any issues. And TRS customer service is top-notch to boot. If you ever have an issue they'll handle it without any grief.

you don't need to change the fuses or run special relays for any HID kit. if you need to swap to bigger fuses, the HID ballasts are shit.

Yep already ordered the kit Friday night, just waiting to get them in. Plugged in the stock headlights today and they fired up just fine so nothing got ruined except the shitty ballasts.

              Wife's 6 year anniversary present (e30)

Also bought a k and n cone filter and adapter but where do I get a support mount for the intake system now that the box is out?

K&N on. I don't notice any difference, noise or power

You're better off with the stock air-box and a drop-in K&N Filter, since it actually draws cool air from the grilles. The cone filter you have will draw air from the engine bay which will be warmer/hotter than the air funneled into the headlight surrounds/grilles and vented into the stock air-box. Have you ever felt the intake manifold after a drive with the OEM air-box? The manifold should be cool to the touch. The OEM design is pretty efficient.

yea, it may be short term, we'll see.

Just sold our 1998 Subaru Impreza wagon today to get another BMW... not another e30 though. Something newer and more reliable.

Installed the stock airbox back today. Car seemed to be running kinda rough at idle. Not sure if the stock airbox helped. I'm replacing the spark plugs tomorrow and doing an oil change. We'll see if it helps.

Also got the morimoto HID kit to install tomorrow. Opened the box and realized it's far from plug and play. I'll also need to see if I can get the depo projectors pointed more up .

Oh and yesterday I did the cheap keyless entry in the trunk. AWESOME!

Unless you got the wrong harness, it should just be plug and play with the DEPO H1 headlights. I got the H1 kit from TRS with the H4/9003 can-bus harness and everything just plugs right in to the existing H4/9003 plug for the original sealed beam set up.

                        Pics of what you got?

2 Ballasts, 2 lights and the cluster fuck of wires there on the left... one wire connects to the battery then there are 2 grounds.

yup...wrong harness. you got the HD harness when you needed the H4/9003 can-bus harness. call TRS tomorrow and they'll work something out for you. or just order the harness separately...they're like $15.
