Hmmm I wonder if this is why mine will refuse to r3v past ~5500rpms regardless of how hard Im pushing on the throttle lol

Hopefully the chip will correct this

Edit: did a little more searching on replacing the chip (I really didnt think I would need to, but the 153 is special )

Found this great video by Sssquid himself. You'll see why this is a bitch.

The video actually helped so after having eaten dinner and sitting down patiently, I split her open in 5 minutes

Butter knife and the right angle was the trick

        Chip installed!! I'm excited

Sadly there is either a major difference between the chips for the 153 and 173 ECU or I got a bad chip but I'm guessing it's the former. Car wouldn't start after I put it all back together , so I had to pull it all apart again and installed the stock chip. Car started right up, my face wasn't thrilled though. Email is already sent to Jay aka sssquid tuning. I'm sure he will fix this issue. It was my fault so I'll deal with it.

Tomorrow better be an exciting day because I have some parts that I'm paying someone else to install

I'm sure it will go without a problem ! Haha

Wow - never realised there was that much difference in the ECUs?! The 173 (or 172, 179 etc) is simple by comparison.

Klaus has a 153 ECU and a Turner/Conforti chip. Jay will certainly confirm, though I'm 99% sure 153s and 173s are different enough that chips are not interchangeable between them.

Continuing this busy week of doing stuff, this morning I dropped off the car at the muffler shop to have them install the Borla muffler and I think they did a pretty good job. I don't have any pictures of the finished job yet. Car sounds pretty good though and I think it's going to get a little better as it breaks in.

I told them not to do anything on the tip side but the did weld some piping as "tips" so I'll have that to deal with, but overall I'm happy with the job

Cirrusly Blue - The Daily Driver E30

Today was a good day. After owning this car for about 3 months and not officially knowing when the timing belt was last done, we got it done. I asked Ian (E30335i ) to help me, but it was definitely me helping him. Haha

He is balls deep into BMWs haha

I snapped a few pics of the muffler setup. As you can see the "tips" are nothing to get excited about but its definitely OEM-ish

Turns out the old timing belt didn't look bad, and the water pump was fairly new too but I'm glad I have a date and mileage to base future belt changes off of. Odometer read 168,970. Just shy of 169k. So I'm good until at least late 2020 and 210k min.

Dude, nice! If only you were closer to the midwest- I have everything you need to make your car the coolest (manual swap and full plastic bumper conversion).

Keep up the good work, I like that you always enjoy your cars (I never finish mine).

Thanks! I might have both arranged locally. New owner of the Aluminum Monster (CYN RNS) is probably going to go 6-speed in 2018 so I will be getting the G260, the driveshaft and possibly a few other things back from my old car... slowly buying it all back!

I do need to find a clutch pedal setup though and get my single mass flywheel sent out to get a little weight shaved off of it. No rush on either of those though.

Oh, Ian also let me borrow a 173 ECU he had so I can try out the Sssquid Chip. I will probably throw it in the car tonight or tomorrow to try it out.

Nice work on the belt & tensioner!

My Dad thought he'd replaced the belt on an engine he put in his car, but it turned out (when the tensioner became very noisy about 6 months ago) that he actually did the belt on the engine he took out of the car and the timing belt in his car was 13 years old and had done close to 100,000 miles! He did catch it in time luckily.

                                I'd say you'll be fine a bit past 2020 :D
