That's right, the ball joint didn't have enough friction to... keep it up.. it was too small of a mirror anyway.

What weekend is good for you?

Pictures would’ve been pointless of this part of the engine disassembly and is probably pretty boring for most of y’all, but it’s done. Now, I can focus on finishing up the driverside rocker and be ready to drive it up to Laguna Seca for the Historics in a few weeks. One last hurrah for the motor, hopefully.

Had a fun day yesterday driving the Nuova around. Had to run errands and figured the Alfa could and should be able to handle these things. And naturally it did. It got me comfortably through 405 traffic to RC Fuel Injection where I dropped off 8 Twin Spark Injectors and told them to do their magic on the best 4. From there I turned back around and headed back up the 405 to errand number 4 and promptly ran into another Alfisti... though Im not sure I should grant this person the title, not based on his lovely Stepnose, but based on the fact that he was not at all as excited to see another Alfa in the wild as I was.

When we finally chatted at a light, he mentioned that he had owned his for 3 years, but based on the plate Im not sure thats accurate unless he just got it on the road & registered. He didnt seem like wanted to chat much but he did mention that it had a 1600 and now has a 1750. I was a little bummed, but still happy as a clam with my little 1400 and promptly took off like a chase was on... Never actually taken this thing to 6000 before... cool

After errands #2, 3 & 4 my "Nice car, what is it" / Thumbs-Up count was up to 5 and I was off to have dinner with some friends at this busy spot in Culver City. Parking always sucks here and this time was no exception. I circled the lot once and the excited Valet attendant who waved me in prompted me to do something I never do... valet a car. I asked him if I get a VIP spot and when he said "we'll move this Tesla out of the way" I confirmed he could drive stick and knew where reverse was and went on my way.

Had to snap a pic for this once in a lifetime (I think) experience. Not sure I will let anyone else Valet the car, but this time I allowed it. After dinner, I went to my last 2 stops and both were met with the "Nice car, what is it" with one person even inquiring if it was for sale, to which I said no... :)

You have no excuse to never not daily this

Booted a Tesla in a valet; there is still good in this world. Shoot for the stars and valet it at the Beverley Hills Hotel lol. Or take it down to Terranea in PV. Go have lunch over the ocean. This car goes anywhere you want it to go.

See you at the Midtown Meet this Friday?

The *current* babyseat situation is the number 1 reason I wont daily this car. Eventually this car can be a daily, even with the kiddo. For now its a daddy-living-his-non-daddy-life driver, so if shes not rollin, Im rollin in the Alfa

I will probably be there, but the Alfa probably wont. Its a BMW meet afterall... ;)

Made a quick little video about the adventure I went on a few weeks ago.

This past weekend "we" fixed the wiring... My initial concern was the one yellow/ black wire.

There was also a white wire that appeared a little roasted...which I figured brought the count to 2.

However, once Kevan got to work he noticed a little further downstream a ' hot spot' that had another 5 wires that also needed to be replaced. His OCD was great here as he properly soldered and heat shrunk the wiring. I was busy helping another friend with his car so I didnt get any pics of the work, just the mess of roasted wires when it was all done.

This basically solved the problem I was experiencing but we still have one taillight that wont stay on as a runner but works when the brake is applied. I thought the bulb looked sketchy but the old swap-the-bulb-to-see-if-its-the-problem trick revealed it wasnt the bulb... so close to perfection.

Oh and we didnt tackle the rocker at all which was the original plan of the day... I need to get my hands on this lazy Z shaped tool that Alfa made to take the door pins out... I need one so Im kinda stuck until then

In other news I got my Fuel Injectors rebuilt. Its funny because the lady at the counter who asked what the motor is from clearly doesnt know what an Alpha Romero is but the guy rebuilding the injectors knows what an Alfa Romeo is. 😂

Got my call from the machine shop today... are you sitting down?

-Good News: ummm the liners are out!

-Bad News: Block is filthy (I knew this. We ALL knew this).
Crankshaft needs a LOT of work. Looks like the smoked number 4 bearing did quite a bit of damage and they suggested that it would need to be welded, heat treated and grinded back to get it to standard sizes. Suggested I look around for another crank, as it might be cheaper than the cost to repair. The machine shop bill just got big lol

Well, at least you aren't in the boat I'm in with mine. 3 cranks (first one was chewed up and already ground at least twice, the second one was ground once and was ugly, and finally the third was 0/0, taken to the first oversize now), new head studs new pistons, bearings, liners redone incorrectly, oh, and a full head rebuild... for a "healthy running engine" You thought your machine shop bill is bad. After over a year of waiting, I'm scared to find out what mine is. The only things that haven't been replaced are the rods and the actual block. The upside for both engines, they will be awesome when they are done.

Looks like some progress is coming along with this... As Im one to do, the search for a crankshaft let me down a path and it looks like Im going to be doing a little more work. Stay tuned
