apparently it's been a bunch of years since it was available
damn well hope so
yes, the m-tech. I have an interior being made for it, then it will go on BAT.
m3 updoots:
The following things appeared on my porch:- supertech valve springs + Ti retainers
- supertech intake/exhaust valves
- supertech guides 2x
- upper tensioner rail
- S50 tensioner
- Elring HG set
- distributor rotor
- distributor cap
- mishimoto coolant hoses
Some of these parts, the head, the cam tray, and the cams have all gone to a machinist in Emeryville that came highly recommended by a few different folks. The head will be cleaned, pressure tested, measured for flatness, and get all new valves, guides, and springs, as well as a cleanup/grind on the valve seats. He will grind all the valve stems to the same height and do a bench valve adjustment.
I am searching for a new lower chain guide.. if I don't find it, it makes no sense to take the lower timing area apart, and the existing stuff looks relatively healthy, which is surprising given the mileage of the motor and the PO's absolute certainty that the only work the motor ever received besides oil/filters was a crank regrind in the late 90s due to rod journal scoring.Comment

3 months and a whole back injury and surgery adventure later, Julien got mad at me for not making progress on this poor car, and we had a weekend rager getting everything together, fueled by junk food and beer.
The head came back from the machine shop with new valves, exhaust valve guides, springs, and retainers.

The old stuff was pretty worn. Lots of missing metal.

Head install rampage ensued. I've done an S38 head before, so this wasn't too different, but there was still a lot of trial and error. Mostly no surprises, although getting the cams in time with the crank was a bit of an adventure.

After some troubleshooting (unplugged valve cover breather hose, loose chain tensioner) we had it running smoothly. I pulled it out on the street today to get it ready for bleeding and smog. This required moving every other car, since my parking situation is (seriously) quadruple-tandem.

updates - put some roundy boys on it

ejected a selector rod clip between shifts at about 85mph and coasted it to a nearby gas station

started restoring some door cards. All these bits started out worn, faded, and a mix of natur and pearlbeige. Leather Magic is pretty cool.

coming soon: a suspension refresh and a slightly different transmission..Comment

More details on this? My door cards are GROSS and could really use a thorough clean. You know, the whole car is gross, both of them. I've been super lazy because I barely drive these days.sigpic

leather magic is a dye, not a cleaner.
for cleaning, I used saddle soap + warm water and a stiff brush to lift things out of the texture of the vinyl. I then applied several layers of this stuff from Leather Magic to dye the pieces to Natur. The left door card in that picture is original Natur. The right one and both door handles used to be Pearlbeige (and disgusting/faded).Comment

Perfect, thanks!sigpic
