After all that was done we started on the trunk. We are using a 7" high speed grinder/buffer with 80 grit to strip most of the paint off. Then we go over it with 80 grit on a 6" DA. The car has been repainted at some point, so we are taking off both layers of paint down to bare metal.

We took a break and got bored real fast so we did the roof. This is before I went over with the DA to get it down to metal.

The finishing sanding is going to be 180 grit then a final wipe before we put on the chromate-free wash primer followed by primer. Next up will be the quarter panels and start to fix the dents on the body before we spray it with primer. All the body panels will be done off the car then installed when done.
Don't finish in 180 you'll be kicking yourself!!! at least finish with 320 if its gonna be a solid color.

I sometimes staple screen to the framing at the top of the door and drape it outside the top, while open, to keep bugs out while painting (run a bug zapper the night before). Bugs aren't too bad here yet so I didn't. We only had 1 gnat which was picked out in first layer of basecoat.

I've also painted hundreds of cars/parts in the past when I worked for a Mercedes dealership, and since then.

Also make sure you and otheres are not in/out of the house while doing it if you have animals. My brother came out after basecoat and brought a dozen dog hairs that came off his clothing and landed on the car (basecoat was on for 5-10 min so they didn't stick, had to blow off). Wear a paint suit ($6) and a respirator ($20-$30).

Alright. My other plan was to make a paint booth in my driveway out of PVC or 2x4's and drape some like 5mil plastic over it an. Get a couple fans for venting. I read somewhere there's this cleaner you can put on your car if your painting outside with out a booth and I will keep things like dog hair and stuff from sticking to the car. I can't decide if I want ppg paint or DuPont how much did you pay for all your paint and primer? The DuPont pain I'm looking at is around 700 a gallon.

Are they all PPG products If so I'm going this route with paint...

edit: also did you wet sand the body primer from 400-800? cuase the process i was told was to before primer dry sand the bare metal body from 100-300 then primer then wet sand with 400.

I may try this cause the results look great. There's so many different techniques for painting.
