Ive used Paintscratch too and didnt care for the mix and color like I did my local shit. I think I've used custom spray cans on every BMW I've ever posted up on this site :) No one ever noticed. Looked OEM.

You probably wouldnt need more than 2 cans total to hit the whole bay. Then cut and polish it with a PC or Griotts RO. It will turn out looking pretty damn good.
        +1

I used my local Sherwin Williams Auto store to mix up some spray cans of AWII. The minimum order is 6 cans @ $11/each but they match it perfectly to factory paint codes. It's good quality stuff, I'm very happy with it. And whatever you don't use can certainly be sold to other schwarz guys.

I can probably have that done at either Industrial Finishes or APS here in town, I don't think we have a Sherwin Williams Auto paint store here. :( Darin, maybe I have have you do that for me, I can just send you the money?

On a related note, Andrew and I pulled out all of the braking system components today, the ABS module, lines and booster. Just a few more things to clean up, and it's time to paint!

Also just got finished ripping out all of that nasty, rotting sound-deadening stuff on the firewall/in the tranny tunnel, I'll probably just respray it in thick undercoating.

Yeah, I was thinking a wire brush, combined with maybe a putty knife/rags and mineral spirits would take care of it quick.

You are really cleaning up that engine bay, i like. Going to keep the battery tray or cut / trim it?

I'll keep the battery tray for now, I actually really like using it as a place for tools/materials/fasteners when I'm doing things like repairs or oil changes.

Are you planning on using any kind of heat barrier on the trans tunnel?

Aircraft Spruce and McMaster Carr can be your friend in this department.

For sound deadening or solely for heat shielding? On an M20/G260 it doesn't get noticably hot in my experience. Is this a common step??

                            - I will do some kind of barrier in the transmission tunnel, really the only reason I removed all of that stuff is because it looked like shit, was crumbling, and was all moist and kind of rotting. I don't care about sound deadening. Levent just had the brilliant idea of doing heat insulation under the carpet around the trans tunnel, rather than on the underside.
                            - Yes, the ABS system remains, I took it out to finish cleaning and paint the engine bay
                            - No, I haven't gotten into any wiring yet, not will I really need to. Greg made me a harness adapter.

Good news on the paint front, I went to Industrial Finishes today, and asked them about having spray cans made with gloss back. They had to have a minimum of 8 cans at about $6 each, and the cost of the actual quart of paint. However, he remembered that they already had a few cans of another product in stock, a very high-grade gloss black spray lacquer that several shops in town have used with great results, so I picked up 2 cans of that and a can of clear, just for added protection and finish. Gonna finish cleaning the engine bay this weekend, start masking everything, and hopefully paint Mon/Tues!

Just finished another deep clean on the bay, mainly the firewall, and lower areas below the strut towers. Going to give it one more good clean on Monday when my paint is ready, and then hit it. Cell pics from my G2, they're actually better than my camera... lol.

It is close, it merely waits...

Gonna look good. You should clean the rubber off your blower motor cover and paint that as well. Removing tat stuff will help with the install of a e30M3 wire harness cover if you decide to go that direction down the road.
