I actually traded the war chipped ecu for stock one as he needed it for another car, and he helped me out with some parts also.
Hands down I would reccomend going standalone if your going to boost the car, if you are on a budget I would suggest ms, if you can spare the extra cash the vems unit is well well worth the extra coin.
Who ever told you a shitty idle is part of running on standalone either knows nothing about tuning or is talking out their ass.
I can understand a smooth idle being hard to attain if using large injectors(1000cc+) on pump gas but for 250-400whp build using pump gas a smooth idle won't be hard to attain at all.
There are a few ways to get the idle how you want but using the iacv is the best way, it will require more tweaking and tuning but it is in my opinion the best way to get a smooth consistant idle.
In my experience with ms, I ran it for almost two years on my volvo and did not have a single issue with reliability, you never have to worry about a maf or o2 sensor taking a shit and making the car run shitty. You know exactly what the motor is doing and it only does what you tell it to do.
If your going boost, fork out the money for a standalone, get it properlly installed(take your time) and then spend the money on a good tuner, it will be the best decision you will ever make. If it was up to me I would install standalone before boosting it and get a good n/a tune and get the car running perfect, will cause you much much less headaches when you do turbo it.
