Glad to see people aren't insane here - i swear though, it's for almost any engine swap people are like this. It's almost laughable when people talk about m60 or LS1 weights... they almost make it sound like they're swapping a honda four cylinder in or something.

Back on track though, op your car is sweet, hope she doesn't run too hot & that those mounts hold up

      Well......... i hope so to..

these numbers regarding weight is not what i just made up.. it is on the net..

but as said the M70 is an an Aluminium engine.. and that helps vs steelblock

but i have extra heavy parts also.. vs other engines ,, like the complete brake unit,
all incl.. accumulatur.. oil lines etc etc ..

but so what.. it is a V12,, and when you open the bonnet you can tell to other E30 owners that you have one of the most individual swap out there.......
nothing beats the V12 on scale of Vanity

        BMW on the M70:

Gives HP rated at 295 and power/weight at 1.77lb/hp.

I bet I'm not far off in saying the entire running engine weighs around 522lbs.

Sounds about right to me man

Aluminum or not, it's still a big ass slab of metal meant to fit 12 cylinders.

So OP how much street driving have you done yet? Cooling working OK for you?

Come on people. He did a great swap and put a v12 in an e30. It doesnt matter if it weighs 800lbs. It's clearly not a track car and it's not like you were going to do the swap regardless.

              awesome work man.

                    Well ,,,,,,,,,, update,,

the car works,,, really good imo ,,,and it pulls so well

                    the positive,,,

really really good force,, and fantastic engine sound,, M70 have never been famous for gorgeous note,, but i am pleased it is fantastic to drive and you can stay in 5.th or 6.th gear and gets instant response on such a low speed and rpm

negative........ in real live the M70+G560 is heavier than i thought
the radiator is also to small..... the fan is almost constant blowing and its getting winter time here
and 3.46 ratio is to short
                    1.st gear is almost useless

but on 62 mph / 100 km on speedo the engine is running 2500 RPM ..and that is not bad at all,, i have 6000 rpm cut

I've been thinking about an M70 or M73 into an E34 with a Getrag 265 and custom adapter to a 4HP24 bellhousing.

I'd put it together with the 2.65 large case diff, but if you stay with the medium case, you can go all the way to 2.35 if you want.

The only 188mm 2.35 i have heard of is from the newer gen , ,, like 330d E46

and afaik then you must buy a LSD from Quaife,, and modifie the casing in to the E30 body

i am not to well informed about these differentials,, but been told that it does not fit from
                        E46 casing to E30/E34/E28/E36

                        2.65 210mm was only offered in US spec E31 ,, i think

I was under the impression that 188mm parts would interchange up to the E90's, but I could be wrong.

2.65 210mm came in E38 740d also... another one we didn't get in the US

Great work Alpina. Good to hear it drives well.

On another forum, a former Jaguar engineer posted a heap of fully dressed engine weights (which he'd had over the scales at Jaguar). He posted the M70 at 225kg - close enough to 500lbs. No big deal though, it's only around 15kg heavier than an M30 (210kg), and the weight is further back!

Personally, I'd love to do a V12 swap if the manual gearboxes weren't completely unobtainable down here!

Ok,, but i am pretty sure that the E38 diff ratio form the casing is also useless.. in older casing like
