Depends on the coverage, unfortunately. If not at fault, then you are at the mercy of the other cars' insurance unless you have full coverage to compensate - which classic/collector car insurance usually is.

Only way to get true coverage on these older cars is to use someone like Hagerty. Then it has to be a garaged, second car that you use for shows or weekends etc, but they give awesome coverage. Gave me full stated value on the total loss of my e30 which is about four times what I would have in a regular insurance claim.

Today was an especially hard day.

How does one go from zero health problems and consider that normal, to not even being able to lift a laptop with one hand without searing chest pain, or the very act of rolling up a window causes huge pain to the point that I have to stop everything just to catch my breath? This is not how I envisioned things.

Not to mention I live on the second floor of the house. Looking at those steps every day is like looking at the peak of Everest from base camp. Sometimes I just hobble away because I can't do it. It's such a terrible feeling not even being able to put your own shirt on because the lifting your right arm over your head puts stress on your chest.

I hate that I have to take pain killers just to sleep. Twice now I've tried to sleep without pain medicine only to wake up at 4am with such intense chest, head, and lower back pain. This is pain no burrito can fix. I feel like I was hit by a train.

I just had two fresh surfboards shaped for this summer surf season and the thought of trying to paddle out in my current condition terrifies me.

Please stay safe out there. It's one thing to lose a car, but it's another thing to lose mobility of your limbs and essentially your health. Not fun.

Having to see this is one kind of pain, but being scared to laugh because it will cause me to bend over with overwhelming chest pain; well, that's a new kind of depressing reality I didn't understand until today.

I can usually keep my cool and act like things are good, but right now, things suck. Things really suck.

          Stay strong man!

I remember when I temporarily lost use of my left hand and it terrified the shit out of me. Its still not 100% and will never be 100% again. Its a sad thing getting older, but it sucks more when its injuries that other idiots cause to make you not 100%.

My ankle is also never going to be 100% again, but that injury was sustained during a particular turkey bowl when I was Al Bundy-ing it up... 3 touchdowns in one game

            You're the best, Shant.

You really came through. It was so hard to watch the car, as damaged as it was, get towed away. Very sentimental.

Sorry about the car, man. I started reading the beginning and loved it, skipped to the and and realized it has just recently had a huge change of events. I hope you feel better soon!

First: Absolutely excellent build. Truly inspiring and wonderful how you brought that car back to life. Loved every picture and choice you made. That's exactly the way I would have done it. You sir have good taste.

Second: Glad you're alive. What happened right here is the one thing that scares me about driving a 25+ year old car with no airbags or modern safety equipment on the roads of LA. So sad to see that happen. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Where are the local e30/02/bimmer meets you guys attend? When you're up and about I'd love to check out the cars and give you a handshake for the great work you've done.
                    Chin up.

I know not everyone buys it, but if you don't have one, find a chiropractor.
Your body is all kinds of twisted, bent, misaligned.
You'll find much of your pain will reduce through proper chiropractic care. Some of it is muscular, which requires time to heal, some is structural (bones), and some will be a combination of both... structure being screwed up puts serious pressure/stress on muscular.

I once checked myself into the hospital with what I thought was the onset of a heart attack (at the age of 28!), only to have EKG's and other tests come back clean. Went to my chiro the next day, and he showed how a twisted spine was pulling the muscles across my chest causing me to be unable to breathe, feel light headed, numbness... etc. All the hospital wanted to do was give me 1000mg ibuprofen...

Rest up, heal up, and remember, you don't expect a turn a restoration project around in 14 days... and right now your body (and mind) are in need of a restoration.

                      -Chris

Damn, that picture really puts into perspective how hard of a hit you endured. With the crinkled roof and rear quarter panel, the impact thrashed its way through the entire car. This really puts into perspective how quickly everything can change and how important safety really is. I kind of feel like an old fart saying that but it's true. Sorry to hear that you're in so much pain, I want to say be happy that it wasn't worse, but you're still facing a difficult recovery and I hope you can return to 100%. I want you to dedicate a random backflip off something to me on Instagram as soon as you're able, and I'm holding you to that.

P.S. the crash almost shaped perfect rear fender flares for you.
