Started sectioning my struts yesterday. I totally buggered up the ball joint. I couldn't get it out and after about an hour of trying to get it out I just ended up hammering it with a 5 pound hammer as hard as I could. So I guess I'll be getting new control arms/bushings.

Here is some of the sectioning process. My hands were really dirty and covered in metal filings so I didn't take too many photos.

I ground down with a floppy disk everywhere before I welded so I could get good penetration. I welded all the way around obviously. I was taking photos while the metal cooled after a weld.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic I don't have a great deal of experience welding, but think that I've done a well enough job for them to hold and not break over time. I got a nice fat, well penetrated bead all the way around the perch, which is the most important area to get a good weld on this project.

If someone who is good at welding thinks I did a terrible job let me know so I can redo them, or have them done right.

I'd never criticize someone's work on a forum.. Was sincere - looked like a nice bead and good heat/weld penetration. And to be clear I'm re-learning welding on this side too. Not an expert.

Since school has started I have much less time to work on the car, but I squeeze work in whenever I can.

Tonight I got the rear driver sock and spring installed.

My room mate said my dimes should be closer together

                    Starting height

The old shock came out easy enough. It had fantastic dampening ability.

Dirty. Added a reinforcement plate; the photo was blurry.

Cut my finger on the spring compressor.

                    fixed

The spring is adjusted a majority of the way down. I'm a little disappointed. It's not very low. I don't know if it's because the front end is still on jack stands, if the other side isn't done, my shock is too short, or it just needs to settle. I'm really not sure.

I'm not too worried. I'll see what happens when the fronts and other rear is on.

I would remove the spring pads.

And yes it should settle a little lower once the rest of the car is lowered and on the ground. 4" or 5" rear springs?

                              Go here be happy!

Spring pads were removed. I only kept the top pad provided by GC

It's a 5 inch rear spring. Like I said, pads are removed and I maybe have 2 threads left to adjust down. I don't know if it's going to settle an inch.
