Looking up the stock mini is only 1300 pounds or so. And they are adding another 400 pounds I would assume(unless the celica motor is aluminium, and I don't think it is) - so less then 2000.

I wonder what it would take to make a car that is under or at 1000 pounds with out resorting to the aerial atom type chassis? I guess you would have to do fiberglass body, over a triangulated tube frame(super strong if you know your engineering). Kinda like the solar cars do.

Quite difficult if you're not talking about a small, single seat car with a motorcycle engine. Once you start considering that even a very light car engine and transmission are in the 400lb range, it gets tough.

I think they added a lot more than 400lbs. The AWD turbo Celica donor car looks to be about 3200lbs, and the non turbo FWD Celicas look to be about 2600, so about 600lbs difference for a turbo and AWD, plus all the metal they added to support all of that. I would not be at all surprised if they added as much as 1000lbs to it.

Yea - good point. I'm kinda window shopping for something super light, 2 seats and and doesn't cost an arm-and-a-leg. As close as youcan get to a street legal go-kart.

So far Porsche speedster replica/kit is on the short list(1600 lbs). You can throw a subbie motor in them, and apparently they really fly. Any other suggestions are welcome.
